King's Bounty Series, Il-2 Sturmovik, Blitzkrieg Series, Silent Storm S2, and other wargames 70% off!

War is, undeniably, a part of human nature. Or maybe even nature in general. Everywhere you look wars are being waged. Even in your own backyard you'll find ant colonies fighting each other in endless struggle for resources and living space. According to many theories war is the single most progressive force in human history. Whether we like it or not, the root of most technological, and even social advancement lie in the race for military strength. There is no wonder war fascinates us and holds a prominent place in our imagination. And--of course--all of that interest we take in it, is being expressed via computer games. Today, we invite you to join us for a [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/1c_gsc_nival_1c_online_weekend_promo_310114]Wargaming Weekend with 18 excellent strategy and tactics titles offered whole 70% off. Let's take a brief look at some of the games, shall we?

King's Bounty: The Legend and its continuation, King's Bounty: Crossworlds GOTY play a lot like a Heroes of Might & Magic game. But simply calling them clones would be unjust. Saying that they're "genetically enhanced clone"--as one of our users called it--would be much more fair. The gameplay is full of unique ideas and the high-fantasy setting of the game has a very distinctive feel to it. With many, many hours of gameplay, innumerable tasks to complete, giant world to explore, and a great variety of enemies to defeat, those gems of a strategic-RPG truly deserves your attention. Yours for $2.99 and $5.99 respectively.

Blitzkrieg Anthology and Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology are both extensive, realistic, and multifaceted strategy gems. Don't miss the opportunity to get yourself hours upon hours of excellent and challenging strategic gameplay that will test your skills as a military commander. Both games excel in portraying the reality of the World War II campaigns down to detailed unit specifics and equipment. You'll get a chance to recreate the most important battles that served as turning points of mankind's most terrifying conflict up to date. Once you finish all the engaging single-player scenarios, you can challenge your friends online or use the provided map editor to create your very own campaigns. They can be a part of your collection for only $2.99 each!

That's only a small part of our Wargaming Weekend promo. Head out to the promo page to be fully briefed on our offer and start planning the tactics on your approach. The offer lasts until Tuesday, February 4, at 4:59AM GMT. Over and out!
$4 for both, fuck it.

Thanks everyone and thanks for putting up with my early morning over posting. :P

Soccorro: yep the first one forced you to use your brain. you had to use artillery, anti air units and expecially infantry to avoid disasters. In BK 2 it's like:

"The infantry is unable to break through the enemy lines!? SEND IN MORE INFANTRY!!"

JaqFrost: Thanks guys!

Now that I have Blitzkrieg sorted, does anyone have thoughts, feelings or opinions on Fantasy Wars, Heroes of Annihilated Empires or Star Wolves?
Star Wolves is great solid RPG\Tactical RTS mix and Fantasy Wars is fascinating too if you like tactical battles. HoAE is a bit specific on my taste

Dawnreader: Cossacs and American Conquest are brilliant.. Perimeter has unusual fresh point of view on RTS genre and Fantasy Wars if you like TBS
avatar
tinyE: I just asked this above so forgive me but (and forgive the ambiguity of the question) is AC any more or less forgiving than Cossacks. I bought Cossacks years and years ago on disc and I loved it but man it almost killed me. I'm thinking the America setting might out do some of the frustration but every once in a while with Cossacks I'd find myself screaming, "Just give me a fucking chance you bastards!" :P
it's the same game. The indian tribes are just hopelessly underpowered. Oh and your troops will flee if their morale gets downed. Which is always the xcase when you play with a native american tribe.

*One Iroquois Musketeer gets shot* "OH SH*T THEY'RE SERIOUS! RUUUN!"

gandalf.nho: And regarding Etherlors, they're hard games or not?
I would say they are "challenging" more than flat-out "hard". Some battles will go very easily, others will quite difficult. A lot of it is down to figuring out what combination of cards works best against the current enemy, and sometimes the luck of the draw in getting your cards in a good order. If you take your time and explore, and choose your battles in a reasonable order, you should be able to progress. And try to change things up if a particular fight doesn't go your way.

tinyE: I love these games but I don't really consider any of them pure RTS which is my favorite genre. Maybe I'm splitting hairs here but IMO games like AOE 1 & 2, StarCraft, and C&C are the blueprint RTS and the games in this promo while great really don't play like any of those.
Sounds like you're suggesting these as a better place to start. My only experience with any strategy game or derivative was the original Spellforce, which I enjoyed.
Huh? The UFO franchise was here in GOG? Have to investigate that further, those games were awesome. I wonder if these are clones? hmmmm....
I expected to have at least a couple games available in this deal but...I apparently own every single one! :D

In general though, I don't think we have enough strategies here, namely RTS titles. I'm such an RTS junkie I can never have enough though ;)

I bought like 5 games a couple of days before the 2012 winter sale, and then I bought some games 50% off that appeared in 75+% off bundles later on in that same sale so yeah, happens to all of us at some point.

I do like tactical battles, thank you! =) In what way is HoAE specific, if you don't mind my asking...?
I'm still hoping Star Wolves 2+3 will be released here.

I can see your pain. Oh well, things happen. Looking at the bright side, at least you can look for other games without worrying about what you've already bought anymore. Besides, you had the entertainment on what you've paid for already before today. (Or at least the satisfaction of ownership) :)

They aren't the XCOM games, just in case those are the ones you are thinking of. XCOM is the superior product, but these should be fun enough in their own right, especially at these prices.
Time to finally pick up Etherlords 2 and Silent Storm it seems. :)
