I'm running into a bug in the new GOG installer.

I stick all my games in the Program Files (x86) folder. The new installer flags the path as invalid "Path contains illegal characters: ( )", even if I select the path from the browse menu. ...it's totally a legitimate path in windows, I swear. >.>

can anyone think of a workaround?

Yes - install them somewhere else ;P.

Yep.Noticed certain games (most recent releases)i tried to install (ie Space Colony ) wont allow me to install to a directory called Gog.com.. whereas a lot of other gog games i could.

That is exactly the case. Many games have problems with special characters, or installation in Program Files due to the way permissions in that folder are handled. This is why the default installation folder is C:\GOG Games now.

But as I mentioned in a similar thread before - we don't block these anymore in new releases, because it turned out to be a bigger issue for users than we expected. Other games, already released in the new installer will eventually be updated as well.

Only the games that don't tolerate special characters will have them blocked.

Guess that makes sense but I got around it by installing it to C:\Progra~2\GOGcom were GOGcom is a symbolic link to GOG.com

Glad the team is working on the issue, that sounds like the most standards aware approach.

Irony of ironies - using a windows nomenclature kept in for legacy support to get around a modern workaround to a legacy support problem. But yes, that sounds like it would work. Thanks!
