I try the "contact us" button but it just keeps going back to the troubleshooting page and gives me no option to actually contact GOG. So I thought I'd describe my problem here:

When I try to download extras for a game, such as maps and manuals, and I click "save file", all I end up with is a white template with the Explorer "E" on it - which doesn't work. When I try to open it, the window just flashes a few times and that's it. I know that the white template means something is wrong, otherwise it would be a proper icon, but I don't know what the problem is.

Same thing happens when I try to "open with" Explorer (it doesn't work with Firefox either).

Any help would be appreciated. Also, where is the downloader? Maybe I should reinstall it but I can't seem to find it on the site now. Thanks.

First of all, don't use Internet Explorer. Get Mozilla, or Chrome - try then.

And if you want the downloader, just click on one of your games and choose to download trough the GoG Downloader. It will then give you the choice to either open the game in the application or download the downloader.

For the extras; do you have winrar installed? If not get it here http://www.rarlabs.com/

Maaaybe the downloads for that title are temporarily hosed. Can you tell us which game it is, or is it doing this for multiple titles?

"If you're having problems submitting support tickets, using the forums, or accessing any other part of the site, please wait a while and try again. If the problems persist for a longer time, please contact us."
If you can't contact GOG then contact GOG if the problem persists. :P

I hope GOG isn't falling apart. I can download games, but all the other stuff just doesn't work no matter what I try. And it's for multiple titles.

I've solved it! Or at least found a workaround. Still doesn't work trying to save the file, but if I open it with my archiver then it's fine (of course, part of the problem was that I didn't have an archiver, so I had to get one). But now I can open it with that so everything seems good!

Except for Zork. Even in the archiver, the extras for that show up as a broken icon. Oh well!

Both "Save as target" and left-clicking on the link work fine here. Your trolling is out of place.
Of course you have an archiver, the ZIP one has been build-in in Windows from as long as I can remember. Your problem most likely is that you've associated ZIP files with either IE or some other program.

Right-click on an extras file, and then Open With. Select Windows Explorer.

But does that make it suck less?

Well, considering that it is the most secure, fast, and complies with standards (and not build in crap like Google's own 'standards'), I'd say it doesn't suck at all.

Anyways, the browser is irrelevant to the poster's problems, so this discussion is useless for him.
