I just put my hands back on my original copy of Will Rock. Not a masterpiece, but still a quite fun game, if you like Serious Sam rip-offs. ^_^ I remember completing it a long time ago, but I'd like to play it again.

Problem: I'm now on Windows 7 (all drivers up to date, Core2Duo @ 3,6 GHz, 4Gb RAM, GeForce GTX 280). The game installs itself well, I patched it to the latest patch available and it runs.

But the problem is that, very quickly, it stutters up to the point it is unplayable. And textures are frequently missing (like being able to see through walls or ground).

I of course googled the problem, tried the compatibility options offered by Win7, but with no result. Does anybody know a solution to the problem?

I don't remember installing any patches, back when I had the game. I completed it at least two times, never had any issues.

Try reinstalling the game and running it without installing patches.

I never had any issues... when I completed it on Win XP! Now that I'm on Win 7, it's different and the Win XP compatibility mod doesn't seem to do anything... patch or no patch !

I tried it on Win7 x64 when I first got my gtx 460 when they first came out and I couldn't even get it to boot up at all. It would insta-crash upon executing. In the course of researching possible solutions, I ran into other posts that described similar errors as yours. Apparently If you can get it running under Win7 x64, it will still be unplayable due to graphical errors. I hope a fix is figured out eventually. I always thought the co-op in it was pretty fun for a budget title.

I played Will Rock quite a bit shortly after it came out. Of course, this was on XP. Recently I was toying around with installing it on Win7x64, but I guess I won't bother. It's a shame...still, I wonder if it would be a possible candidate for a GOG refit...

GameRager> My graphics drivers are up to date, I checked after the first problems I encountered with this game. I won't switch my graphics drivers, as they work perfectly except for this one game. And Will Rock is a sympathetic game, but not worth the trouble experimenting with different versions of graphics drivers. If despite my efforts it doesn't run, well, that's it, I might reinstall it on my other, WinXP partition (I have a dual boot), but just for that game I think I won't even bother.

I'll try the software mode, just to see.

It's a pity, I got some of the same problems reinstalling Severance Blade of Darkness, but there was a trick on internet I tested and it worked perfectly... ^_^

Did you try to set the processor affinity to the first cpu (if you have a multi-core cpu) ? This could be the cause of the stuttering.

This is purely a graphics card\drive issue.

I would try the video card driver game. If you are using the same video card that you were using under XP then try to use the same driver or as close as possible and see if that makes a difference. Also try XP (XPDM) instead of Vista+ (WDDM) drivers.

Can't you install XP mode in a virtual machine?

Well, given the fact that I'm on a dual boot WinXP/Win7 on my actual computer, I think I won't bother with a virtual machine and just try to install and run it on WinXP. ^_^ It's just that I haven't used XP since I installed win7 and I was looking for a possible easy workaround. If there is none, so be it! :)

I still have my original copy of Will Rock. I have been pulling out all my "back in the day" stuff to try running on my new (6 months) HP DV6 and DV7 Intel i7 - GT630M laptops. They both have Intel HD4000 integrated that runs along side the Nvidia. I got Will Rock to run by designating Nvidia as the graphics engine default for WILLROCK.EXE. I got my copy of Marine Heavy Gunner to run in Virtual Box with WinXP. I had to resurrect my old MSI GX630 to run Uber Soldier, Doom 3 and Quake 4 with Win XP. Dual boot with XP doesn't like the UEFI bios on the HPs or I don't know how.

Given that XP Mode (Virtual PC) has no 3D acceleration whatsoever (it emulates an S3 Trio 32 or 64 I believe), I doubt that's a good idea.
