hedwards: I think they used to be better both in terms of quality as well as general play. But, I think they started to go downhill decades ago. I would assume that it had to do with arcade machines, but they were still pretty good in the late '80s and early '90s.
As I understand it, they had something of a renaissance in the late '80s and early '90s as they managed to fight back against arcade machines.
So... the Kickstarter launch countdown ended about 15 hours ago and was replaced with a "coming very soon" message. I guess something didn't go as planned.

If they failed with launching kickstarter on time, what else can go wrong...?
So... the Pro Pinball Kickstarter is live and I think it's going to fail, unfortunately. They are asking for a vast sum of money, $400,000, and for the minimum pledge of $15 you only get the new table, not the remastered classic ones. If you want the whole package you have to pledge at least $50.

It looks like they want to sell all five tables as separate games for ~ $10 to $15 each. I don't think that's gonna fly in a world where competitors like Pinball Arcade and Pinball FX are offering a bunch of excellent and highly complex tables for about $3 each.

Pinball FX is the other name of Zen Pinball, right? The 3DS version of Zen Pinball is amazing. Pity the PC version is going to be a Win8 exclusive/Metro App.

But yeah, $15 each is way too much, I'd pay $20 for all 5.

Yeah, I believe the game is called Pinball FX on Xbox 360/Windows and Zen Pinball on PS3 and mobile devices.
I'm curious: They say they already bought back the rights for the Pro Pinball series. What'll happen to the ones available on GOG? Strategy First is still listed as publisher, so I assume that would be incorrect at this point.

And Mac. They recently upgraded their engine to version 2, so everyone with Zen Pinball now has Zen Pinball 2. I wish they'd release their mars table somewhere other than on the PS3. I'm not a comic book superhero fan so I don't play half their table releases (marvel license).
When someone mentioned this to me today, I just about fell over in excitement!

timppu: the only mobile device is apparently iOS, not Android.
Android support has been added! (and then some).

The initial platforms will be: PC, Mac and iOS
They'll be followed by versions for: XBLA, PS3, PS Vita, Linux and Android (Including OUYA and Kindle Fire)

(The new table is planned for release on all platforms at the same time.)

To be honest, I'm a little nervous about the timeframe they're suggesting, given the sheer number of platforms, and the number of tables. But this is something I've desired for a many years (even without the new table), so I can't help but back 'em and see what happens.
I feel sad, the project show early sign that it will not materialized. I love Pro Pinball, the very reason why i came here originally. But the amount they ask is too steep. Plus, i'm not sure if i like the idea that they're going sell the game separately for that amount of money.

Timeshock and fantastic journey for $2 doesn't seem too bad.

All you lot who don't think it'll succeed: $2 for Timeshock and Fantastic Journey is a great incentive to back. I personally put in $10 so I could get the new table on my Nexus 7 :D
It'll have a greater chance of being fully funded if we all chip in...

New reward tiers: You can now get all 5 tables (four classic tables + the new table) for $30.

They haven't even made a quarter of the goal? Destined to fail. I'm not really surprised though. *shrug*
Hopefully they'll try again if it fails. I agree the original asking price for all five had seemed excessive for a Kickstarter, but the new prices seem really fair, and a bargain for any pinball lover.

I'll be really sad if this idea gets abandoned.
