Just curious if anyone has a MineCraft server me and my girlfriend can use? We're not completely against interaction, but it'd be great if it was mainly just the two of us. (I'd host my own, but I'm behind the University's firewall, and all the computers have deep freeze :/ ).

there have been a few servers for gog users but i think they are all closed now.

Hopefully someone run a small server the 2 of you use
I ended up making my own on Openshift :)

Thanks though!
Whoa, Openshift...!
i thought openshift was to do with cloud programming?

good to know, i didnt search for it, i just didnt think openshift did anything like that
There are a couple of differences that have to be made from that guide to make it actually work, but they're not terribly hard to figure out :)
I've been running a server on my (on site) server, mostly for multi-client and backup reasons. I also like to experiment with server mods slightly. I suppose you can run Forge on that instance, if you're careful.

I'm interested in doing the "cloud programming" thing on it too :)
Well turns out Openshift has gotten too annoying to use :/ (You have to port forward using ssh tunneling on the client side whenever you want to connect).

So I'm once again looking for a server. Really though, I can set up the server myself if anyone just has a computer I could use as a VPS.

Thanks!

Create a batch file to connect via SSH and launch the game?

LOL. Why not set this on your GF's machine?
It's what I did, but now a friend of hers wants to play too and I'm realizing that every time anyone new wants to join I'm going to have to install Putty and the rhc tools, and create that batch script and such...just a LOT of hassle! lol

And her internet's kinda spotty (and she's only got an old laptop), so it wouldn't make a good server :/

I could set one up for you on my home network, though please regard it as a "last resort" offer as I am currently in the process of moving between/decorating rooms so I can't promise 100% uptime or a lack of lag (my primary connection is 8mbps and the secondary is 60mbps but isn't under my control, so no QOS).

I have run servers for random others in the past though and they didn't report any problems with it.

Just let me know :)

EDIT: If you do choose for me to set you something up, I'll give you all the options I can offer and you can choose which you prefer!

Didn't realize friends were involved. That can get messy fast. Have you tried asking in any MineCraft focused forums? That may garner you more responses.

Most generous.
