GOG is not sending out your details to Google. If I am not wrong, this is Google Analytics. I use Google Analytics for my blog and it doesn't send any personal particulars to me.

AstralWanderer: Order ID is individual and so can be linked to personal details by GOG or anyone else with access to GOG's database.

U314b: Anything wrong here? :)
Nothing that I can tell. They already have access to all these without Google Analytics.

I use noscript on Firefox and have never allowed Google Analytics. So many sites use it.
oh crap google knows that i bought Thief 2 oh no!

keeveek: GOG is not sending any cookies to google or any browser data. How would google take it and connect it with your order id?
In two ways:

* Google Analytics' Javascript code (which is run by GOG's thank-you page) sets Javascript cookies. It would be straightforward to access (or modify) cookies for other Google domains by including links to them (with the cookie contents embedded in the link).
* Using browser fingerprinting, which should work well with most GOG users being on broadband connections with static IP addresses. Defeating browser fingerprinting is *hard* - you need to use shared proxies and modify your User Agent to something generic to do that.

keeveek: GOG is sendind that data from GOG's servers site, not your pc. In other case, they would have your IP address also, but they don't.
When you get the thank-you page the follow events happen:

*your browser receives the HTML from GOG.com;
*your browser executes that HTML to create the page you see;
*where that HTML includes links to other sites (like the social network links at the bottom), your browser will connect to those sites as well;
*the analytics code on GOG's page causes your browser to connect to Google Anaytics and submit data on your order.

So Google do get your IP address, your browser details and effective access to any Google-owned cookies set previously.

OMG! Google is supressing GOG staff's freedom of speech!

on a more serious note, GOG staff is probably just preparing some tinfoil hats prior to committing to a reply.

This topic is being tracked as obviously as our orders!
I already have GA and many other of Google's crap blocked, so I don't care.
Yeah, for all people really concerned - you may download browser plugin that blocks google analytics from here:

http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=pl

but Roman5 will say it's from google, so it's probably a trojan horse.
Welcome to the internet, your privacy is already fucked.

Fred_DM: ....kind of funny, too, that it's coming from a Brit, who may get filmed on CCTV up to 300 times a day...
Don't have to worry about CCTV - I stay indoors all day with the curtains closed. :)

But you're not collecting purchase details and sending them onto GA are you? For your blog, GA is "just" a free service providing details on site visitors. You don't get to see the details GA receives from other sites - or the results of the processing that Google themselves do.

Now consider this - running GA imposes a cost on Google (bandwidth, support, etc) and Google are not a charity. Why else would they be offering GA as a free service if they didn't consider the data collected to be of commercial value?

NoScript will restrict what data GA can collect - but you need to have it active on gog.com to stop order data from being sent to GA in the first place.

For Roman5 then - use NoScript.

BTW: I have this thread marked with "!" but I do not see any staff post here.. ?!?
Wow, this thread is another reminder of why people DESERVE the invasive "big brother" and police state like governments that all governments around the world seem to me moving to.

It's revealed that a company is sharing personal order information without consent, and what do most posters do?? DEFEND THE COMPANY!!! OF COURSE THEY DO!!! They're providing GAMES and ENTERTAINMENT and that's what we want and who cares what companies and governments know about you.

50 years from now the attitude will have change greatly. I won't be here to see it, I hope some of you commenters will. Perhaps you'll learn something.

Flame away now, flame away. I've not only not defended the company, I've pointed out why people deserve exactly what they're getting more and more of everyday. Lord knows that's a sin, and that I'm the real source of your problems. So, I've got a nice big target painted on my fat ass. Flame away.

After you're done though, please stop and just THINK for awhile, without always kneejerk defending a company just because you like them. I like GOG too. But this shouldn't happen, and there's nothing wrong with pointing it out that it shouldn't be happening. And for those who really don't care, then I'm obviously right that you deserve the big brother type government/industry knowing all there is to know about you because you don't care, so why flame me if I'm right??
