No details on what it might be but with Mechner involved it could be interesting. If its a game then I hope they can marry the excellent dialogue of the newest Prince Of Persia title with the time period the fucking thing was supposed to be set in (as great as the banter was it felt completely modern) and the fact that the prior Prince Of Persia games had gameplay that felt a lot less automatic (was it only me that thought the recent game felt like one big quick time event broken up by walking?)
Interesting. Hopefully this also means that he will actually get involved in the making of a PoP game again...
I agree that there was something weirdly anachronistic about the dialogue in the latest Prince of Persia game (it got to the point where I was half-expecting Elika to pick up an iPhone out of her pocket and phone a cab). Also, while the script wasn't necessarily bad, I felt that the "less is more" approach to Prince/Princess banter in Sands of Time worked a lot better...

I really enjoyed the last PoP. The moves in it were gobsmackingly cool.
Looking forward to this and the movie.

It's not only you.
In fact, it's pretty much all that Ubisoft is doing in their games these years. Assassin's Creed itself is nothing more than hidden QTE.

This is what bother me so much in recent Ubisoft games (and annoy me when people like their game for that, to be honest):
- Wow, this main character is badass, so cooool! Love his style!
- Wow, now he can make giant jump, walk on walls, his moves are so cooool!
- Love this game. So coooool!
Mmmmm.....Jake Gyllenhaal.

Wasn't he involved in SoT and the newest one?
As long as the combat isn't anywhere near the sands of time, I'll be fine. In fact, I like what they were trending towards in the new PoP - make the combat as minimal as possible.

I thought the combat was pretty good in Sands of Time. Warrior Within and Two Thrones had better combat though.
Haven't played the new game, but the one enemy at a time fighting doesn't sound as fun.

SoT combat was fine. It was a nice break from the platforming.
WW might have added deeper combat, but it wasn't really needed, and made the whole game more frustrating. The best idea is to keep the combat and platforming separate.
Minimal is good too.

Sands of Time, yes. The rest of them, no.
According to the trademark app it can only be used in games and software. It seems Jordan Mechner has only worked on PoP, and PoP 2 (the originals) and recently Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Sands was the best in the series, it was the most fun and had some of the best game play for an action adventure game. I am very happy to see this man working on the next title. Not that the reboot sucked, i was un impressed with it and wanted more classic game play like back in the day. The combat was a joke too, once you got the timing down you were a walking god, breezing though ever fight even bosses.

They dropped the ball changing the series' aesthetics in response to God of War with Warrior Within. Sands of Time was just a breathtaking game in every sense of the word. The other 3 titles released after it are great too, but Warrior and Two Thrones had that "GOW" art style, which dissapointed me...as well as a lot of teen POP fans who were not able to buy the "M rated" sequels.
The new POP game is great tho, I think Ubisoft finally saw the light.
