Sogi-Ya: this is "stunt" all out!

the game is basically finished, confirmed for Steamworks, and has been featured in multiple gaming mags.

Bethshitia is just trying to leach off of the insecurity hovering over every ID project ATM (with RAGE being a flop and the next DOOM title rumored to be canceled) as a means of stirring up marketing buzz.

the only reason Bethshitia would ever cancel a game was if there was no way to consoleize it, but that's not the case with this game. hell even Demons Forge got shipped and if there was ever a "development hell" title that needed canceling (mostly so the developers could work on something worth a damn) that was it!

Prey 2 is fine, this is all marketing bull shit.
I hope you're right, I was actually looking forward to this game.
I'll wait until it is officially confirmed. However, last year many Bethesda's publishing games went into the high-expectation-low-performance route, they will have to do something about it, sooner or later.
Never liked Bethesda, I like them less now ....*shrugs.
The reactions in this thread amuse me. When this game was announced everyone kept ragging on it because it was ditching the old main character, the original premise, the setting and basically everything but the name. The game wasn't even going to build off the original cliffhanger... It was nothing but a hate parade from day 1, even when the game started sounding awesome. Now everyone's acting shocked it was cancelled, except the reaction was overwhelmingly (and unfortunately) negative. Of course they were going to cancel it when the collective gaming community seemed to loathe it.

Plus the game itself couldn't find a proper premise that they could even think of affording. The latest premise of Blade Runner/Mass Effect/Deus Ex Human Revolution, though it sounds awesome, would have been virtually impossible to pull off. Think about the budget that would require, and then try to imagine Bethesda giving that to a sequel to Prey of all things.

This is the least surprising cancellation I've seen in a long time. It's a pity, but it was inevitable.
More likely a delay to rebrand or something, they game was pretty far along and had positive buzz.

Roman5: And this is why when you make a game: Don't end it on a Cliffhanger if you aren't sure whether or not there will be a sequel shortly after

See: Tons of Franchises and series, hello there half-life
This. I think Prey 2 was going to be totally separate from Prey 1, but the message stands. I friggin' hate cliffhangers in both games and movies. I've been waiting for Condemned 3 or at least some news about it for years.

Hopefully this is not true. Sounds like it was going to be an interesting game.

Gamers today in a nutshell. No wonder the industry doesn't take us seriously. I don't.
I don't believe Bethesda would ever cancel Prey 2, I mean come on, even Brink, Hunted and Rage got released.
....and Wet ....*shudders...

Thankfully, it isn't

Bethesda today confirmed that the game is still in development by Human Head

It will just not make a 2012 release

Ooh, nice head fake Bethesda. Not a very good one, but probably enough to throw off most gamers.
“The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards"

What, it didn't crash enough for you?
We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule.
Since when did they change from their usual "let's release the game too early and patch it later" approach?

Edit: Too late, got ninjaed!
