So I'm a tad bit bored of my current games. I'm in the mood for a nice strategy game that is turn based. I could almost go for a Total War game but I've played all of them and their not really doing it for me anymore, same with Civilization.

In other words I'm not looking for grand strategy. I'd like to play a game like or similar to X-com: Enemy Unkown but my laptop can't run it...

Any ideas of games lol?

And if this doesn't qualify for a good thread he's my backup question: What's your favorite TBS game?

EDIT: I've learned that the type of game I'm looking for is called a "Turn Based Tactics" game... I've never heard of this term till now lol

Tug of war with the cyclops.
Maybe "Imperial Glory" which is here on GOG?

Looks interesting but one thing I don't really enjoy about the Total War series is the RTS battle scenes like what Imperial Glory has. But I will keep that on my radar because it does look interesting.
Eador Genesis.
Age of Wonders is great if you like the fantasy setting.
The Disciples games.
Eador: Genesis? It might be a bit too much of a "grand strategy" for what you are looking for, but it's a great game. Btw are you sure that you aren't looking for a Turn-Based Tactics game instead? Because that is what Xcom: Enemy Unknown is.
Some turn-based strategy games which work on my nondescript lappy top-

Chaos overlords
Smugglers V
Jagged alliance games (most xcom-like gameplay, I suppose)
Gorky 17 (xcom-like flair with rpg elements)
Commandos games

Yes! I've actually never heard of the term "Turn Based Tactics" but yes, that would be what I'm looking for... thanks!
Turn-based tactics? Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord

Endless Space - OR SOTS Complete.
Um, X-COM?
The Battle Isle series (except maybe the last one which I haven't tried but got bad reviews).
Shadowrun Returns
