Divine Divinity for free and even more reasons to pre-order the upcoming innovative fantasy RTS!

[url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/divinity_dragon_commander]Divinity: Dragon Commander is an upcoming multi-layered real-time strategy game with a fantastic setting, epic scale, and many original ideas making it a breath of fresh air in the genre, and it's currently available for pre-orders on GOG.com, for $39.99. The game's release is currently planned for August 6, and if you pre-ordered it, plan to pre-order it, or are generally interested in great RTS games, we've got some important news for you!

Larian Studios, the game's creators, announced there will be two editions of the game available at the release. The version you'll be getting if you pre-order on GOG.com before August 6 now becomes the extended Imperial Edition, which contains the game's additional launch content: a development documentary video, an extra campaign map, an additional golden skin for your Dragon Emperor, and the game's soundtrack. The pre-order period is your chance to grab the game and all of the additional content for just $39.99.

If you decide not to take the pre-order route and get the game after the release for $39.99, you'll still be able to upgrade your version with the aforementioned development documentary video, extra map, golden dragon skin, and game soundtrack via the additional $9.99 "Imperial Edition Upgrade". Yes, this basically means that early adopters receive $9.99 worth of content with their pre-ordered copy, free of charge, thus becoming the owners of the most robust version of the game available on launch day.

Video: Divinity Dragon Commander: Imperial Edition Call to Arms!

The other thing Larian Studios is offering to GOG.com pre-ordering customers is a complimentary free copy of their classic Divine Divinity action-RPG. This will be a GOG.com copy, mind you, so the free game itself also comes with tons of valueble bonus content (and don't forget about the first free game you got out of this deal: Master of Magic!). This gift from Larian is meant to make up for the fact, that due to technical reasons the developer can't offer early beta access to GOG.com buyers.

Bottom line: Pre-order Divinity: Dragon Commander on GOG.com for $39.99 before August 6, to get the exclusive Imperial Edition of the game + free Divine Divinity & Master of Magic!

Now, just to keep things transparent, a post-bottom line. This announcement might made some of our veteran users raise their eyebrows once or twice, and we feel it is important to address the fact that we're taking a new route with this release. First of all, this is the first time on GOG.com that a single game will be simultanously available in two different versions, one of them standard and the other one with addtional content. We believe this gives more freedom of choice to our users, and increasingly, this is where a lot of newer titles are going: selling additional content like soundtracks and so on at a premium. It's important to note that GOG won't be doing this with our classic releases, as the GOG.com policy for those always has been and will be to make every release as complete, comprehensive, and filled with free bonus content as possible. For new titles we would like to offer both the gamers and the developer more flexibility to make their mutual deals the way they want to. Furthermore, as time progresses and new releases become a de facto part of our back-catalog, we'll be trying to re-negotiate our deals to include soundtracks and more bonus content with those as well.

We hope this answers most of your questions regarding the new solutions we're testing here. Our recent user survey allows us to remain optimistic about your feedback. If you have any questions regarding these new steps we're taking or the (highly recommended!) Divinity: Dragon Commander pre-order offer, we encourage you to ask them in the forums.

Licurg: Why wouldn't you redeem Master of Magic yourself ?
Like Reever said above, I kind of suck at strategy games... however, I'm not a 'he.' Also, my friend, to whom I want to gift it, loves strategy games and I want to share the joy.

I do own both Sacrifice and King of Dragon Pass if it makes things better...?

Blackfalcon: Guys are you for real ? Stuff that should be already in game IS A COSMETIC future - you get a golden dragon skin wow. You do realize there is a golden and silver jet packs also that are promotional items for 2 different promotions ? Is that content that should be in game and never ever make any promotion ? The other so called game future - Earth map for campaign ? From my understanding that might replace the standard map you're playing on with Earth looking one. All the rest of the futures are pure bonus that cost them money - It's documentary of making the game and Kiril's OST. So you're all rioting when they offer you that as potential bonuses after game launches and calling them slimey due to offering you Collectors Edition soundtrack and documentary after release ? So really can you point out what is the cut content that should be in game that is making you going on crusade against Larian ? Oh yea lets not forget also they are really greedy bastards - they are offering you Divine Divinity for free because they can't sort a GoG server for beta test and they want to be fair with all their customers. Yep I agree Larian are next EA with day one DLC. Lets burn them !
This^

Larian's a good company, and this "2 editions for sale" thing is nowhere near enough to make them a bad one. It's just something most companies have to do to make some extra cash, and I don't think it's that big of a deal. A few years after release, they'll probably re-release a complete version with all the bonus/DLC/cosmetic crap etc.

mqstout: Quoting in agreement. Even though I Kickstarted your game, I do *not* appreciate you taking this approach. It makes you slimey. I don't like that I'm already in a business relationship a company that would so something so wrong and anti-consumer.

"extra map"
Maps aren't cosmetic. And if it's such a small bit, why's it $10?

Extra map to my understanding might replace original Rivellon map and you play on current Earth map oh thats not cosmetic at all.

Because it's a marketing incentive.
Well I already have the game pre-ordered so no change for me, but I would be curious to know more about what they mean by "extra campaign map", is it a new campaign (which I doubt) or an extra mission for the campaign, or just some "skirmish'ish" map.

Fuck Earth ! I already live on it, don't want to play on it too...

Ah sorry, couldn't know about your gender :)
And yeah, owning King of Dragon Pass makes it waaaay better (and Sacrifice too, especially for Licurg) :D
Well, a map, an OST, a making-off and some cosmetic stuff. That's only incentive to pre-order the game. That's not vital. So if you don't want them, don't buy them.

They upgraded all Original Sin bakers to this version (if the reward tier included Dragon Commander).
They upgrader all GOG pre-orders to this edition.
They offered Master of Magic 1+2 and now Divine Divinity to everyone who pre-ordered the game here.

What the hell is wrong with you people ? They're great but they still need to earn money to make a living.
Bah, bunch of entitled whining...

First, additions are either cosmetic, non-essential to anyone's gameplay or not even part of it. Skins, one random-ass map that adds nothing to story or experience. Soundtrack alone is worth at least 10 measly bucks (seriously, Kirill is a legend). And then there are dev diary videos which, like OST, have nothing to do with actual gameplay.

Even, if you disregard all that: this is Larian we're talking about. It's not EA, not Ubisoft and not Activision. They're the ones who decided to make this game DRM-free, which is practically non-existent with games of this calibre. And what's more important, they're good guys.

Now stop bloody whining, it's embarrassing.

Roman5: I know all of this depends entirely on Larian so here's a message to them:

Dear Larian studios, this is a dirty move where you sell things which should be originally in the game to begin with for an additional price and try to make it look like a "Premium" edition, many studios and publishers do the same shit on Steam and other places

What all of this does is decrease the value of your game, decrease your reputation and provokes less people to preorder your game because based on what you are doing: you are trying to Swindle and Rob people with "Day 1 DLC" aka: Stuff that should already be in the game for free - a practice popular among many terrible and greedy publishers

Because of this attitude, I will not be pre-ordering your game

Roman5
I know a place that will have all the stolen content for no additional charge. Along with the full game.

You're seriously comparing a documentary video, extra map, golden dragon skin, and game soundtrack to day 1 DLCs? This is getting retarded, honestly. To expect every copy of every game to come with a free documentary video and soundtrack and other free stuff seems like an enormous sense of entitlement to me. Do you bitch about the Humble Bundles too because they force people to pay extra to get the soundtracks? Your post is utterly ridiculous and out of touch with reality.

How about you two fuck off? :)

Also, just so you know, when someone buys something they actually ARE entitled.
"
Multiplayer notice: The game's multiplayer mode is compatybile only with the DRM-free versions of the game bought on GOG.com. "

Does this mean that people who bought it here, where it was the first available way other than kickstarter, aren't able to play with people who get it on steam, which will probably be a larger proportion of the playerbase?

Maighstir: Trade the codes with someone who does not yet have the games in question.
avatar
JaqFrost: Are they going to be separate codes, or just a single thing with all three games, like GOG usually does? I don't want different freebies, but I'd love to be able to give them to someone else and since I have one but not the other... there would be a bit of a problem with redeeming a singular code.
Games given by GOG in similar promotions (like, say, the The Witcher 2 Europe/Australia pricing thing) have been separate codes. No idea about this one though.
