davelgil: Hey Dave of Wadjet again. I didn't realize BMT was charging VAT for this, so I asked them to remove it. And they did!
Hey bro has there been a newsletter sent out to subscribers recently to spread word of the boxed version?
avatar
kalirion: I guess that means Wadjet Eye changed its views since Gemini Rue debuted in Indie Royale? I'm curious to know your thoughts on how being in a bundle so early affected the game's subsequent sales.
avatar
johkra: Wait, wasn't Gemini Rue released in February and the bundle in October?
Hmm, you're absolutely correct! I guess I hadn't heard of it before, aside the occasional preview, so assumed it was its first appearance - when really it was only its first appearance on Steam!

Yeah, that's correct. Gemini Rue was released in February and popped up on Steam/Indie Royale in late October. I never would have sold Gemini so cheap on the day of release!

Yep. There's been a few, in fact! Are you on our mailing list? http://www.wadjeteyegames.com/mailing-list.html

Yeah I am. Weird. I don't know how I missed that info in the last newsletter. Thanks anyway Dave!

Great news, thanks Dave! No way I can resist now..
(need to get my facts straight when it comes to these taxes, VAT applies to digital goods? weirdness)

Yeah, I don't quite get it myself. It's an EU thing, apparently.

HideoKuze: I have a couple of questions:
- are there multiple endings?
- branching gameplay?
- was this a one-time game, or will you continue making new games? aiming for 2 games per decade? :)
Sorry for the slow reply!

Multiple endings: Yes!
Branching gameplay: Somewhat. The story is quite linear, but there are multiple ways to solve some puzzles, some parts of the game can be completed in different orders, and there are some completely optional puzzles as well.
One-time game: I can't say how long it will take before you'll see another game from me, but I have no plans to stop making them!

Thanks for your interest and the kind words! I'm getting super-pumped for this release!

Two questions:

1. Does anybody knows the technology behind this game?

I specifically ask because I'd like to know if I'm going to be able to play through wine (or at least there's a chance).

2. Is it going to be released for linux?

The game is built in the AGS engine. I believe people have had some degree of success running AGS games in Wine, but as I have never tried running this game, I cannot vouch for it either way. It is not officially supported.

As for a Linux release, the engine is now open-source and efforts are underway by some (much better coders than I!) at making various ports. If a stable version is produced in the future, we will probably have a Linux version of Resonance, but I can't say when or definitively if that is going to happen.

Sorry it's not better news!
The Blackwell games (also using AGS) work well on wine. You might need a virtual desktop or windowed mode since not all resolutions (only 4:3) are supported by the engine, if I'm not mistaken.

(Tested on a C2D 1.6GHz with a GMA950 running an Arch linux deriviate in 32 bit mode.)

I don't know about specifically Wine, but Resonance on Windows works in fullscreen mode on a variety of resolutions just fine (I tried 1280x1024, 1920x1200, 1366x768), no stretching or artifacts.

I assume you have black bars with the aspect ratios the game wasn't meant for?

But yes, the newer versions of AGS give you the "alternate widescreen resolution" checkbox in case your monitor does not support 4:3 on a 4:3 game.

Yes. Previous versions of AGS did not have this feature - I specifically asked Vince about it in 2009.
Went ahead and preordered - something I've never done for a game since Duke Nukem 3D (not counting a couple Indie Royale bundles.)

Thanks for your answer :), they doesn't look THAT bad... afaik xna doesn't work at all for example and the same goes with unity, so it's okay... I guess I'm gonna preorder it :)

Last question :P: If in a distant (or not so distant) you manage to get a linux version, I'm supposed to buy it again?
