It's a downright terrible game and not even a real adventure game in the classic sense. There's nothing in part-one of the game that even classifies as a "puzzle" (something has to actually make you think to be a puzzle FYI). And all the production values are in celebrity voice-acting and cutscene animation. They ripped off their backers by promising a "old-school adventure game" and delivering a casual tablet-ized TellTale-style adventure-lite with a whimsical childish story clearly made for Schafer's daughter not adventure gamers.

So yeah, sooner they go under the better, their hipster fanboys give me the creeps.

I will be glad however when some of these real point & click adventure games I mentioned come out, most without even half the budget of BA, and still blow it away and you know... actually have puzzles, not be a glorified interactive screensaver.

EDIT: FYI I pledged to DFA, so that argument doesn't work I'm afraid. I just think that once he got money from the older adventure gamers by promising a Lucasarts-style adventure, he then turned heel and made a game directly targeted at the mainstream mass market.

If you really did play the game, then you clearly missed the part where there's a village that sacrifices young women to a monster. Unless you think Schafer wants to send a message to his daughter, I don't think this game was made for her. Also, there are jokes and themes that would fly right over the heads of children.

I found the overall tone of the game way too whimsical, I liked DoTT but even that wasn't as whimsical as this. Either way that isn't my main problem with the game, but main problem is that the game is not worth the money they're selling it for, there's no puzzles of any depth or clever design that could really take up any time, it's a basically just a story you just click through, as all the "puzzles" are completely obvious/self-evident. Again adventure GAME, game, it's just not a good game, there's not enough player input, there's also no Verb-bar like in Sierra or LS adventures, which considerably narrows the game in terms of interaction. I can even ignore gameplay if the story is SO good that I just don't care, if there hasn't been many games I've felt that about, BA certainly isn't one.

But anyway, I don't care, there's games like Quest for Infamy or Heroine's Quest or Blackwell coming soon that are more to my taste in adventures. This thread isn't for this so let's stop this now.

Edit: the part about mog chothra was perhaps the only half-decent part of the plot actually

Could the Tall poppy syndrome, the bigger they are (on kickstarter) the more someone wants to pull them down. That said I've not played the game, waiting to play both parts and I also backed for the documentary, as I enjoy that kind of behind the scenes stuff. Maybe part of the problem was there was no plan on what the game was going to be, so it was kind of a DF fan love in. That said I backed for the same reason, partly hype. But if you backed based on that which "Crosmando" did it is hard to justify complaining later as there wasn't much defined it what the game was going to be beyond hype and adventure game. Now if there was a better plan on the table and they deviated from that, then it would be another matter.

Moebius here, there also really wasn't a whole lot revealed about it before release, so I guess it followed more along the lines of a traditional game development. DF are very open on the development side of things, which cuts both ways, fan interaction and also negative backlash can come hand in hand.

Yeah, Schafer never promised that it would be LucasArts style (although, Grim Fandango didn't have verbs either), but some people seem to have expected DotT 2. I can understand people expecting it to be different and I'm fine with people not liking the game. However, while it may not be DotT 2, it definitely isn't a non-game where you just click next-next-next for the story. It's a Tim Schafer adventure game with inventory puzzles, dialogue trees and signature Tim Schafer humor. The puzzles are on the easy side, that's true, but they are definitely there and Tim has promised to make act 2 puzzles more difficult.

I hope that there won't be similar sentiment when Moebius doesn't turn out to be GK4. Unlike with Broken Age, I've been largely avoiding the development of the game, only looking at a few concept art updates here and there.

It's amazing pre-order (or in this case pre-purchase) is still alive and kicking. I'll never do it again after getting burned two times with awful games.

spoiler alert: moebius does not "blow away" BA in any category.
Finally watched the trailer. Woot, I can't wait to see how it all wrapped up.

nope, word is theyr going to start getting backer keys out (may or may not be gog) about a few days before release. The gog demo is actually about 30% of the game, much bigger than the steam demo.
I just played the demo from the official site. I'm no graphics whore but the walking animation was enough for me to uninstall it after one minute. Sorry, I can't play an adventure when the walking animation looks like he's climbing a flight of stairs....horizontally. ugh.

It's kind of a crucial element of an adventure game to get right because, you know, that's what you're doing throughout the entire game.... walking places. I hope they fix this for the final release because I'm sure the story will be interesting...
