LurkerLito: That's only if I was willing to buy directly from steam again, and I am not. Steam screwed me because their credit card processor messed up. So the only way I will get a steam game is if a bundle or retail / other store sells the product. Never again will I buy direct from steam. If I could convert my entire steam game library to a DRM free version I would and erase steam permanently. But since that isn't going to be possible, I can still use their service and get free stuff in the process if they do these steam achievement things during their "sales" and not directly give them money again. ;)
so they made a single mistake, and that's a big deal? i guess it must be great being perfect and never making mistakes, huh?

Wealin: I went with GOG too. I've had times when Steam servers are down, "Game is currently unavailable" or if there is no internet at the moment I can't play any of my games...unless I save my password which I don't do.
why not? my internet connection has been unreliable since February and whenever it goes out on me i just switch Steam to offline mode and keep gaming like nothing happend. works like a charm, every time.

MarcoMp: But you can download it, store on a couple of usb hdds for redundancy, and install it long after gog dies. You can't have this guarantee with steam, now.
but you can do the same with the standalone installer from the devs! and have the game on Steam at the same time.

am i talking to a wall here?!?

I think this will be good base on the youtube video. I am hoping these guys would release randomly generated dungeons. I don't mind much about the puzzles. All I want is to Loot,Craft,Kill in an RPG game.

I also hope that indie companies would make modern games similar to the great games here in GOG. If games are books then GOG is the lost library of Alexandria
I love GOG and CDProjekt, there's no denying that. And I'm always looking to support them when I can.

That being said I just can't bring myself to pre-order the game here. By pre-ordering through the developer's site I'm not only directly supporting the developers (something I did with Witcher 2 as well by pre-ordering through GOG), but I also get a free Steam key on top of the standalone installer. It's just a better deal overall considering it's the exact same price.

Sorry GOG, but this time I gotta give the pre-order to the devs themselves.

There's not going to be randomly generated dungeons in Legend of Grimrock... I hope they make a level editor though. That would make this game 10 times more epic. =D

Let us hope that GOG and "CD Projekt RED" gets huge and gets some really big muscles while still keeping to be as nice to its customers and stays DRM free - then hopefully GOG and "CD Projekt RED" can swallow some of the other companies and do things the GOG and "CD Projekt RED" way....
;-)

It would be very nice to see that which we see and comprehends GOG as being today as being the general future trendsetter - though I am not sure that the chances for that going to happen is that great.....

How will the DLC for this game work on GOG? Will we have to buy it separately as it becomes available or will it be incorporated into future versions free of charge?

How is that possible? Did they change how Steam's offline mode is enabled? For years you have always had to be ONLINE in order to enable offline mode. So in that case if your connection goes down you are shit out of luck since you can't get online to go offline. This has been a big bitch about Steam's offline mode for years.

By the way, if you can have the game in standalone installer form, why would you also want it DRM'd by Steam anyway?

They must have at some point I guess. I started using Steam last year and the offline mode's always worked perfectly for me. Can start it up at any time without having internet access.

Wow. I am glad to hear that. I'm going to be moving to a place where I can only get satellite access and won't have any access at all for a time. It's nice to know I won't lose access to my games there.

Can't speak for others but for me a No-DRM'ed installer is almost no different than a CD, I'll loose it eventually, whether on the HD or CD (Heck I tossed several collections with Baldurs gate in them out eventually after they collected enough dust xD).

Even if it's downloadable, the same would go for the links to where I can still download the DRM-free installers (unless it's a collective place like GoG).

With Steam I know exactly where everything is, even if my computer were to crash beyond recovery, I just reinstall Steam, load it up and everything is there. Just hit download and done.
I went with getting the game directly from the developers website. I was a little bit torn on the issue of buying it from GOG or the developers. I voted for GOG to have newer games when we did the survey so I wanted to support GOG with the first new game I was interested in, but buying the game from the developers was a better deal, Steam copy and a stand alone exe + I figure the developers get more money from my purchase.

So know to buy more GOG to offset my guilt.

Offline mode works BUT if your going to be offline for any length of time, there is no way to know when you have to go back online to 'reauthenticate' your credentials then go back offline. I know.I asked Steam support and they weren't able to give me an answer on exactly how long you could stay offline for (days/weeks/months???).

It works fine as long as you save your login on the computer and you did not stop the last session when it was downloading, patching or updating any games.

Ah, didn't know about that. That could be a problem for people going long periods without any internet then.

Okay, that makes sense.

I'm so pissed at GOG for machinarium this morning that I'm going to order Grimrock from the dev instead of here and getting the Steam code will be a plus for the reasons you just pointed out.

Nice. :-(

I wish they would just finally fix that system completely, once and for all.
