MIK0: Or maybe not. GOG team clearly stated and proved that the service can go down anytime and maybe never return again. That's what we learn with the ill fated GoG PR stunt, and for that GOG can never be trusted on that front.

LurkerLito: True lots of people didn't like the PR stunt and I wasn't really happy about it either. But still it was a excellent trial run for what to expect if it did happen. GoG clearly said something was up (even though it was a bad PR stunt half truth), then they said they would enable people to go download all their games they bought in a few days. Since all their games are DRM-Free once you downloaded it was yours to keep forever and could install and uninstall at your leisure even if their service was gone. Exactly what should be expected should an online distributor go out of business IMHO. Since I archive all my games locally as I buy them, even the PR stunt didn't bother me much. The only annoying thing about it for me was there would have been no other alternative to GoG where all games sold are DRM-Free. As for trust, I trust GoG more than any other online digital distributor on the planet today. Since I know once I buy it and download the product, I literally own it and can uninstall / install it at will.

If the same thing happened to any other system I guarantee you all your games would be lost. Even though Gabe has stated a while back that if Steam ever shutdown they'd come up with a solution to enable you to keep your games, I am certain he was only talking about Valve published games not any of the other ones that not only use Steam's DRM but some other third party variant.

GoG is the only place you could be certain that the games you bought are licenses you own. Steam games you rent or I believe the word they use is subscribed to. You don't buy a license to use the software you buy a subscription to play through steam, so if steam goes, they are completely without legal responsibility to provide a method for you to play the game without the steam service. Almost every other service is exactly the same in one way or another. Either you are dependent on them or if not on some activation server that might disappear in a few years with only some vague hope they will provide you a patch to run the game you bought without the activation server.
I know that, and agree.
But my point is: GOG reputation is worse that it would have been if they didn't pull the pr stunt. The matter cannot be forgotten. Their choice, our trust.
The other point was in response to the fact that someone says that GrimRock drm-free standalone has less chance to be online in the future respect of gog. I was merely saying that it is not necessarily true.
So in the end the GrimRock preorder on GrimRock site seems better in anyway to the other. The only things you won't get is the game in your GOG account.
That's why I said that GOG should make an agreement similar to the one made with steam to give the game unlock when buying from the devs site.

Have to confess it somewhere: pre-ordered just because the music sounded awesome.
Why o why only one track :(

What on earth are you talking about?

Probably like: you are buying game on their site but at the same time getting gift code to add it here on GOG.

xa_chan: Good lord, instant preorder !!!
I agree 100%. I must finish this game before a certain game becomes available (D3). I'm glad Almost Human is bringing this game to this fine site. I'm stocked!
i have steam and GOG,, i like GOG better,,GOG is the way i went with it.and if need be ill buy again from Devs or steam, i realy dnt care one way or the other,,just want to play :)

SoanoS: well, I believe the models are all rigged and animated with pre-set animations but I think the lighting is calculated real-time. I don't have full certainty of this but to me it would appear it is realtime.
In that case, it makes me want to buy (or pre-order) this through GOG.com even more! I 'd love to have me some Crysis in mah hardcore dungeon crawler!
I love how I can get more excited over these indie releases than most AAA titles. This game looks fantastic - emulating gameplay from one of my favorite classic pc franchises, with a solid price and DRM free to boot.

I hope this game does well if it's as awesome as it looks (I don't want to jump the gun entirely). Developers who create games like this deserve to be successful.

Purebreed: Reminds me of so many old school games. I loved those old first person D&D games like Eye of the Beholder and the uber classic Treasure of Tarmin for the Intellivision. Grimrock is an insta preorder, can't wait!!!!

Curunauth: Another Intellivision fan!! *highfive* :-)

I *loved* Treasure of Tarmin! I still remember the times I would leave the machine running (disconnected) overnight when I had a particularly promising game, hoping that it would not have frozen or reset when I came back to play the next day . . . losing my first midas book to a reset, losing countless characters to bombs . . . my first encounter with a glowing door . . . that glorious first Minotaur kill (and then finding that deep-level Wraiths still induce panic and mad button-mashing to try to avoid combat . . .)

Recently played a bit on an emulator, and apparently years of gaming have trained me well - it was a LOT easier than I remembered it being (no, I wasn't using savestates). It was still a blast though, and had some funny moments - I killed 3 Minotaurs in one 2x2 room in my second game (with one or two more on the same level!).

(Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Cloudy Mountain was pretty fun too, and a much quicker game. Certainly more panic-inducing - nothing like being low on health and ammo, then finding that all the rooms around the ominous monster sound have the dreaded twisty passages (or are blocked by the invincible blob), inching toward the target and then retreating in a blind panic, firing wildly and killing yourself with a reflected arrow - still, even the sound effects from either game are enough to send me on a nostalgia trip, even Cloudy Mountain's nightmarish "you're being devoured" sound.)
W00t! I still have my Intellivision and the cartridges, now if I could find the damn overlays on the controllers I'd be set! :)

I went with GOG too. I've had times when Steam servers are down, "Game is currently unavailable" or if there is no internet at the moment I can't play any of my games...unless I save my password which I don't do.

You know the devs offer gives a stand alone DRM-free installer AND a steam key yeah? So with the dev version you get the best of both worlds.
I watched the trailer for this months ago and was very hyped for it. I even felt nostalgic. I have no clue why, however, as I have never played an old school game like it. The vibe simply appeals to me for some reason. I have no idea what is awaiting me in terms of gameplay, despite the videos getting me psyched. This is why I am not going to preorder it, but instead wait for more information and the like to come out. If I am to get it, it will be a GOG purchase.
I suppose if GOG can bring new titles done in the style of the Good & the Old, that's something I can really get behind.
I'm a bit worried about this game's "variety" or whatever the proper word should be. I can only see a handful of different kind of enemies on the videos and on the manual's bestiary. Also since I have been following this project from quite early on, it seems like they put this game together rather quickly.

But I suppose I shouldn't be expecting another Dungeon Master for this price. :P

I've pre-ordered this anyways.

That´s what they tried to tell us all the time.

Preordered :)
