Expack: Holy crud! Are those screenshots real-time, or were they pre-rendered? If they're the former, then my question is this: how did an independent studio get the money to make a game with graphics this good?

Definitely getting this at some point - if not pre-ordering it!

SoanoS: Those should be actual screenshots, and the team made this all possible by using the Finnish "sisu". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisu ;)
I think I know what you mean, and I have no doubt that the screenshots are real, but what I meant was "does the game use real-time graphics, or does it use pre-rendered graphics?"

Ahh, I see. well, I believe the models are all rigged and animated with pre-set animations but I think the lighting is calculated real-time. I don't have full certainty of this but to me it would appear it is realtime.

Aver: It's not possible to release new game with 9.99$ price point.
Sure it is, lots of developers do that. And many new indie games are released at $4.99 as well.

But yes, its unreasonable to expect every new game to be $9.99.

TheEnigmaticT: I don't work for Steam, so I could be wrong, but I don't think they're doing preorders of Legend of Grimrock.
avatar
bansama: With few exceptions, Valve don't start pre-orders until around 1 to 2 weeks before release. The exceptions mainly being for a few games from established publishers and those that offer up beta access via Steam pre-orders.
In this case a pre-order placed with the developer is in effect also a pre-order with Steam, since it includes a Steam activation key.

It does? Huzzah! \o/

Are you sure? If it does I am very happy.

Yeah, buying from the devs directly gets you the same goodies as here and a Steam key by the looks of it.

Yeah, I wasn't too precise. But you know what I meant ;).
Preordered for three reasons:

1) I want to support indie studios,
2) I was always hoping GOG would carry their model to new games.
3) It does actually look quite good.

totally agree :)

Ah, I see. I misread the original post and misunderstood it for GoG pre-order. So the GoG pre-order doesn't include it? I'd still like to receive the key for Steam, regardless of where I bought it. :P

And no $1 = 1€ crap on GOG .

I have to make a decision : Legend of Grimrock or Skyrim .
As I have no saved money at this time, unfortunately, this great game will need to wait for some other sale for me. :(

But there is also other thing that worries me:
Minimum system requirements: OS: Windows XP Service Pack 3 Processor: Dual Core 2GHz Intel or 2.8GHz AMD Memory: 2GB Graphics: ATI Radeon X1600 or NVIDIA GeForce 7600 or better (512MB graphics memory or more. Shader Model 3.0 needs to be supported). Minimum supported resolutions 1280x720 and 1024x768. DirectX 9.0c Disk Space: 1GB
I have Intel NOT Dual Core processor - why Intel requirement is "dual" and AMD is "single"?
I have X1300XT, it is much better / newer than X1600 - but it has only 256MB - will I be able to run the game?

EDIT; BTW: I was able to run official "compatibility test" with "happy end" - does these "new requirements" mean that I will not be able to run the game anyway?

At first I was like "hmm -_- "
but then I saw how excited the developer was so I preordered it.

Very slightly different goodies. We have a few exclusive wallpapers and concept artworks as well as everything the Almost Human guys sell.

We don't sell Steam keys, no.

Ah, great, this looks like Eye of the Beholder I/II with new Graphics!
Must resist pre-ordering...Too late, my fingers were faster than my brain.
My brain reprimands my fingers that I have more important things to do and that this game will probably cost me many days.
Fantastic cross-breed of new and old style and as such a fitting game release for GOG new style.
