Damuna: Nope. Details?
it started yesterday, all my posts are duplicated so I have to edit them right after posting. then it's fine... I'm using IE8, but have never encountered this. probably some bad curse... but no worries :) I'll just try not to post so much :D

EDIT: wow, and it's gone now... curse lifted?

DarrkPhoenix: BTW, how did you guys manage to convince Atari to go along with this DRM free release? You must have a seriously badass motherfucker handling your negotiations.
avatar
Catshade: They convince them with a swimming pool full of money from recent D&D rerelease sales.
I'd say that's possible. I know I bought 6 games for $60 and ended up with more than I can possibly play over the next few months. I used to have Baldur's Gate and its sequel, but I haven't played them in ages, and I've never played any of the others. It was too good a deal to pass up.
Sorry, but I don't get this: I won't pay 50 Euros for a game in digital format.

You want me to buy bits this pricey and get not even a DVD cover or a manual in in exchange? No thanks.

Most - unfair - offer - ever. I pass on.

Simply choose a boxed version as many of us did :)

It is 45 and not 50€ and you get 16€ credit plus an additional game. Bites your "Most - unfair - offer - ever" comment. They also explained why the prices are the way they have been settled and you are free to buy whatever version you want ... please pass to post such a "Most - pointless - comment - ever" next time.

DRM-free tax is included in that 50 euro.

A lil bit correction: it's a $16 credit, not 16€.

this is a ballsy move, but i believe it will pay of for CD Project, and extension will benefit everybody who enjoys DRM free media.

I must confess that I also fell for the cool marketing move which has forced me to click the "pre-order" button right after the presentation even though I wanted to buy a physical copy...

but I don't mind cause I want to show GOG and CD Projekt that I fully support them and that they deserve the money

(I also feel kind of bad for buying the original Witcher years after it was released, in a very rich edition and for puny 15 dollars or so...)

Damuna: I don't like discs, and I don't like Steam very much. I've never used D2D, but are there any other digital distributors selling it?
It might be on the EA Store, but wouldn't be cheap. I've heard D2D's DRM is horrible and I steer clear of it. Mirror's Edge is $19.99 on Steam right now, but even with like 200 games on Valve's service, I bought the disc version that I found on sale. One of the few PC games I've bought at retail recently.

Even though you don't like Steam, it may drop in price dramatically during the upcoming Christmas sale. I can't seem to find it anywhere else.

Back on topic, I haven't even beaten the first Witcher game. I need to get busy.

Damuna: EA...eurgh...makes me want to vomit.

I'm not sure I'll change my stance regarding Steam - I don't like that their policies allow them to cut you off at any time without access to any of the games you purchased, and right now, their DRM, as well as Games for Windows Live, is screwing me over with one of my purchases from them.
What would one have to do to get completely cut off? Not being able to access my 200+ games would suck but I don't think I'd be doing anything that would cause that to happen. I don't mind the client and really like the community that is set up around it, just like with GOG.com. GOG and Steam make an awesome combination.

I don't know how you are being screwed over by them, but by being in Australia I get crazy deals from them since games cost around 100 AUD here. Before moving to Australia I only had Valve's games, The Ship, and Audiosurf on Steam. It's the service that made me take the plunge into digital distribution. One thing I don't like is not being able to *remove* games from my account. I accidentally bought the censored version of L4D2 and can't replace it with a uncensored one.

Damuna: There would never be any reason they would have to give you to cut you off. Maybe they don't like you, maybe their system accidentally flags you as being bad, or someone hacks your account and screws about - bam, you're gone, and so is your collection. It makes me very uneasy. and their baseline DRM makes your games totally useless in such a scenario unless you want to go ahead and crack it (for which they would also cancel your account).

Damuna: I've been trying to play Batman: Arkham Asylum. First I'm locked into the client, and then I'm forced to use Windows Live (which I don't believe was advertised), because the game won't save unless I'm on a Live profile. despite the fact that the game itself saves to the hard drive. I've spent the last few days unable to play the damn game because Microsoft's absolutely brilliant parental controls, which locked me, a 19-year-old, out of my game because my account was still set as a child account despite it knowing my date of birth - to top that off, I couldn't change my account to an adult account via PC because it's retardedly difficult to do that way, and I didn't have access to an Xbox 360 that would have been incredibly simple to make the change on.

That sort of partnership - allowing such completely ridiculous DRM - is unacceptable, and I can't tolerate Steam for acting as though they're saints while they knowingly screw over their customers through their partners.
That kind of reminds me of the Time when I bought the longest journey in a "special edition" I came home to play the game excited and then I realised that after installation I couldnt play the damn game because of fucking Starforce

God just...thinking about that now makes me so incredibly angry...

Thank you gog for a DRM free release!

I don't see why my stance should be catalogued as "trolling". It's just about fair prices, and I don't think almost 50 Euros for some digital bits can be considered "fair".

Because if this is the price-tag publishers (CD-Project including) want to impose on the digital delivery market, I think that digital delivery market is plain shit, a farce, an absurdity and I'm not willing to switch from physical goods anytime ever.

P.S. I don't give a fuck about the "DRM-free" plus, in this case. I would expect that ANY SINGLE RELEASE in digital format is DRM-free or I just won't buy it, period.
