USERNAME:KEgstedt#Q&_^Q&Q#GROUP:4#Q&_^Q&Q#LINK:114#Q&_^Q&Q#It doesn't make sense from a business perspective in so far as the brand awareness they've been building with GOG since the start has been all about providing older games for a low price. To take a silly example, while Coca Cola also selling Pepsi might seem the best of two worlds if you're really into soft drinks, it's going to take some explaining each time you encounter a new customer. Indeed, in GOG's case it's worse because the name itself has now been rendered partially misleading or perhaps (depending on the future of the site) even obsolete.

I would have been perfectly fine with a companion site ("Good New Games"?) build around the exact same layout, payment options, membership structure, shelf page etc. with the explicit goal of selling CD Projekt's own new (and new-ish) games. Perhaps that will indeed follow in the future - at which point any Witcher 2 purchases would be carried over to the new site - but as of yet that's obviously pure speculation.#Q&_^Q&Q#LINK:114#Q&_^Q&Q#

Nothing stops CD Projekt from, say, advertising Witcher 2 to GOG members (with link aplenty on GOG itself and promotional e-mails to the GOG consumer base), and then simply sell it through a sub-section of their official web site, using the GOG download infrastructure if so needed.

My argument has nothing to do with Steam or any other potential publishing option available to the developer in question. The point is rather that all of what CD Projekt will gain by releasing Witcher 2 directly onto GOG can be achieved without muddying the waters as far as branding goes by, well, *not* releasing Witcher 2 on GOG. The name "Good Old Games" is such a square peg that you just can't put it in a round hole no matter how hard you try.
Fantastic! I hate to sound like a fanboy, but wotayagonnado? I know this is a one-off. But here's hoping that, first of all, it's a huge success for you. But then also, just maybe, you can use it to give some other publishers a bit of a hurry-up.

You guys are the ONLY outfit that I know of who are doing digital game distribution right. I'll take you over steam any day of the week. Achievements be damned - I know what I've freakin' done in a game, I played the game for chrissakes! Impulse is better than steam certainly, and I do have a lot of respect for Stardock as a company, but they still encumber the whole process, and thus every game, with that damn client! Just give me the game gawdammit!

I always used to prefer my games on physical media. I have bookcases full off the things. But GOG has completely changed my mind. Now I have a growing collection of GOG install files taking up a special corner of my home server.

PS - Only one thing I would have liked with the offer - the option to pay now. The exchange rate with $US dollar is pretty good right now :)

GameRager: I still wish they'd offer a collector hybrid edition where you get the premium stuff digital but can get the extra CE phsycial stuff mailed to you....or maybe even a link to where you can buy the physical extras in a set or something. I want to preorder here but also want all that physical swag. What to do. :\

And lol don't say buy both cuz i'm a poorfag.

Catshade: Buy the collector's edition, and then sell the game DVDs and other unnecessary stuffs on ebay or craigslist. At least you get some money back that way.
But....but.......I CAN'T BREAK UP THE SET. :(

Oh stop being suck a perfectionist douche...for lack of better terminology. You remind me of people who dislike titles in their favorite series that deviate from the normal gameplay or feel all the time. It's done, they're doing it, stop complaining about it. I din't think it's as bad as you're making it out to be.

You still have a core2duo? Who in their right mind hasn't upgraded to a quad core given their low price and fast speeds and the like? (bat those still playing on ancient rigs that is)

Also, they should list what an equivalent ati would be to an nvidia 8800...I know Nvidia is the most bought video card brand but they should give more info for us with ATI cards. Also when will the recommended(max options) specs be released I wonder?

Yes. I consider myself to be of sane mind and have not upgraded, partly because I do not have the space for a fullblown desktop PC right now.
Woooottttt! Fuckin' imba deal! Superduperultramega awesome! XD

Laptop?
Nearly fooled me with the switch to £s for the price, but I can wait till the price comes down (a lot :). Doubt I meet the system requirements anyway.

Not interested in seeing new releases here, but that's fine I can just ignore them like anything else.

Tom's Hardware says that's about HD 2900 or HD 3850.
I live in Germany. If I pre-order, can I please get?
- English language (does not need to be optional then, too; I don't need German localisation)
- No censorship (as a small rant, here politicians find it okay to let children almost be killed by police [search "Stuttgart 21", "9/30" or "Black Thursday" for that] but not to have them see violence in videogames)

So yes, if those two things are available for Germans, I will pre-order it.

Thanks. :-)

And yes, on a topic you might not like but has to be said, it would be no matter to pirate it because of the lack of DRM. It would be never even with DRM, though, but one would need to download one or two more files and another one after each update. The only thing DRM does for a publisher is to lower the sales, especially if it is too restrictive. Ubisoft is a good example: I'll never buy an Ubisoft game again.

So it's great to see you understood that - and the DRM free on older games was not only for marketing - and go the - now sadly unusual - way of having no DRM. And yes, that is exactly why I will buy it. I want to support DRM free games. Games still sold when all that bullshit was not around, and everyone knows that DRM doesn't help but they need it for the publishers or something. This is no excuse for casual games, though. After the disaster with Fate (which I had to crack in the end - as a customer - because I installed it too often over the course of 3 or 4 years) I don't think I'll get a game with an activation limit again. Yes, some DRM is harmless - like "watermarks" - while others is annoying - entering a 24 number CD key with a high probability that it is exactly then not at hand when you want to re-install the game some time later - and some utter crap - you have to be connected to the internet all of the time, and Ubisoft servers are down most of that time.

You might assume that for each small sold game, 6 are pirated, this is the number that was gotten from World of Goo's statistics. On the other hand, World of Goo was a relatively small project that players who don't read magazines or stuff might never have heard about. So if there's any way to still know how many people buy vs. how many people pirate, I would be interested in that statistics. I would regard The Witcher 2 as a medium title from media coverage. It has not as big coverage as Warcraft 3, Starcraft 2, Doom 3, etc, but still should be known to most gamers. And it has the advantage of having a fine predecessor. So the statistics here could be applied to most titles. Please publish them!

Oh well, you can always trick someone into getting you a new one then.......or whatever. I myself couldn't dream of not having a desktop....alebit a upgraded store model with small case size. Gotta have room for all my hardware and such.
Ok... now that's unexpected... I was expecting Witcher 1 but definitely not Witcher 2.

Anyway this is a wonderful news and the only thing preventing from clicking now on the preorder button is the fact that I already clicked on it as soon as I saw it :)
Ok, pre-ordered it...
But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, let this kind of thing be a one time deal...
I don't wait this site to turn into GNG :(

So the minimum video ram requirement is what? 512 MB?

I got a 4670 Radeon HD.....1GB DDR3. Hoping it's good enough for even recommended settings.

DelusionsBeta:
Some people are just cheapskates that want to give as little money as they can to the developers without pirating I guess. I'm a poor fukker and i'm even contemplating the Collector's edition.
