I was considering getting Dead Rising 2, but it is not the Off the Record version.

Gazoinks: I haven't played Dark Fall, although it's close to the top of my "Buy soonish" list.
Both Dark Fall and Barrow Hill draw heavy inspiration from classic made-for-TV Brit-horrors (A Warning To the Curious, The Woman in Black (original), Sapphire and Steel, The Stone Tape, Children of the Stones, some episodes of Tom Baker-era Dr. Who, etc), so if you appreciate any of those, then that's another good indication that these games are for you.

F1ach: Is Necrovision any good, I liked Painkiller back in the day.
If you liked Painkiller, then you will probably enjoy NecroVisioN as well. It's a visceral oldschool shooter that transforms from a grim WW1 scenario into a battle against demons and undead. It has good graphics, some nice gimmicks (like the talking magical gauntlet that you'll eventually get), a "combo" system that rewards you for specific combat sequences, and some interesting boss fights.

The downside is that it's completely linear, and the enemy AI is rather stupid. But if you enjoyed Painkiller, then these shortcomings won't spoil the experience for you.The music can get annoying, but can be turned off. Also, the game comes without a manual, but I posted a link to one in my review on the shop page.

Psyringe: So far, I got F.E.A.R. 1+2, Last Half of Darkness, Baron Wittard, Barrow Hill, and Cursed Mountain. I'll probably buy 2-4 more games until Sunday. :)

jefequeso: Necrovision

Psyringe: Just played that during the fast few days, you may have seen my review on the product page. ;)
I did not, but I'll go look for it. I'm interested to hear what you thought.

jefequeso: Bought myself You Are Empty (which I've been dying to review)

grviper: Oh, the game, that runs only under one specific build of nVidia drivers from the time, when main version numbers were still two-digit...
Oh... hmm... that sounds not so promising. I have an AMD videocard.

Ahh well. It was only $3.

Bought Pathologic, finally put those "blue coins" to good use. I would have purchased Darkness Within 1&2 as well, but the second one is apparently un-patchable.
Here's hoping the series appears on GOG... eventually. *nudge nudge, wink wink*

Azilut: Have you played Dark Fall: The Journal? If you liked that, it's a no-brainer to buy Barrow Hill. Atmospheric point-and-click horror adventure game that feels like a real, lived-in location, and I found that I could solve most puzzles using something surprisingly close to "real-world" logic. A personal favourite.

I liked what I played of it (didn't finish it before I switched computers, but I will some day). It's a little more "fun ghosty creepy creepy" than Scratches, and the puzzles I ran into were less linear and less frustrating. It had some quirks, no doubt, and I didn't get the impression that it was quite as confident when it came to the horror aspect, but it was still creepy, and I found it more enjoyable. Again, though, I didn't finish it.

Glad to hear people comparing Barrow Hill with Darkfall. I might postpone reviewing MDK to give it a try...

You might have better luck with AMD.
What is GG?

Andanzas: What is GG?
Gamer's Gate

Apparently a lot of people on here prefer it to Steam.

Be warned that my reviews on GG are very dry and technical. Reviews are limited to about 7,700 characters, so I tend to strip away any "unnecessary" remarks and cram as much information into the review as possible. The result usually isn't very fun to read, but will hopefully be useful for people considering to buy a game.

Reviewing NecroVisioN was pretty interesting. The game has a lot of aspects that I usually don't like: linear gameplay, plain shooter design with little dialogue and no options, voice acting with extremely thick accents, brutality ... but for some reason, the setting made all these things seem appropriate. WW1 trench war _was_ very brutal, in an almost dehumanizing way. WW1 trenches _were_ very linear. German WW1 soldiers _would_ have had thick accents when speaking English.

Still, that leaves me with the insight that something as little as a change of the setting can make me appreciate (or at least not care about) things that I usually dislike. I still don't know what to make of that. :)

It really is good also you can do a freaking fly kick. ^^
Does anyone want to comment on Cursed Mountain? I like the unusual setting, but I'm wondering if it makes good use of atmosphere, the bleak environment, etc, and gives you breathing space to soak up the mood, or if it's more of a "Jump scare-zap-zap-zap-zap-jump scare" type of experience.
