Hi all, I haven't logged onto steam in months. Today, I got an email from address
noreply@steampowered.com stating that this email was generated by account admin to help me reset my steam password. As I've said, I haven't logged on for quite some time, so I didn't request a password reset.
Just in case this was caused due to someone hacking into my account, FYI for those that use steam.

Given that the password reset email was sent to your email account, it's hardly the most successful hacking attempt in the world. More likely a typo.

Remember not to give your password out. Also, verify your email address to your account so that it'll be harder for them to recover your password.
To do this, go to Steam -> Settings and under Account you should have the option to verify Contact Email address.

Tantrix: Hacking Steam account comes from anywhere. Mine got hacked by a youtube user who posted a walkthrough about how to get all Steam games for no dice by using his tool. Turned out his tool was stealing login data from other steam users. He kindly gave me the login data back because of ethnical sympathies 8P.
I needed to change my password several times due hacking. Recently hackers invite you to chatrooms of steam and post you a link for Steam discouts. Also a hacking device.
If you bought a Valve game on a retail shop, you can contact the support and demand your login data. So you are save.

*Shrug* What do you expect when 12 year olds register on steam? Failing is the first step towards growing up? The last one with the links on the chatbox were pretty new to me since I ain't much of a Steam user later on. Do me a favor and edit the quote out, I hate myself for posting this.

Long story short, don't type in your Steam password anywhere outside Steam. That applies to any service that requires a user account. Only use the password for the service/website it belongs to, never give it out anywhere else. A password is a secret. Keep it confidential.
This should be the first thing people learn when they start using the internet.
I've seen a lot of MSN-spam lately; "type in your login info here and see who has blocked you" etc. Obvious phising attempt to you and me, but there's always someone who doesn't know better.

That's what I thought too but the Flyn Effect begs to differ.
