Red_Avatar: Chapter 7 actually. I expected it to get harder but it got easier with the gel. The only time I got stuck for a whole 5 minutes, is because I was trying to find a complex solution to something that was so easy and obvious that I didn't even think it would be that easy ... but it was.

Yeah that's where I got stuck! The place where you find GlaDOS back with the three story offices. It was just falling and being catapulted from the highest slab.

It feels like almost half the game is a tutorial so far.

It never really gets any harder. Some of the very end puzzles are slightly tricky just because they involve multiple elements mixed together, but even then it's not really hard, just more complex.

I'm not sure I would actually want it that hard though to be honest. The game kind of drags on as it is if you ask me.

I wish they had fleshed out the retro setting a bit more - it's the coolest part of the game by far to see the original Aperture. It does drag on, exactly because the same mechanics are used over and over: find a high spot, drop, get catapulted, etc. The times when they actually combined the elements in such a way that you think "oh this is clever" are so rare ... a big big shame. I can only remember one or two - one being where you pump the bouncing gel in the glass cage, have it bounce around to break the glass, and then have to rinse it off, only to get it dirty again to get the platform to move up. But the rest are far less interesting.

There are moments in Portal 2 that feel like we're headed into something new, like the concept is going to expand beyond test chambers and funny voices, but then it turns back to test chambers again. By the fourth or fifth round of chambers I'm sorry but the veneer wore off for me.

I still enjoyed it, but it was a middle-ground experience. It was just more Portal with better special effects, which gets it a middle-ground score.
There's hope for you yet. Portal 2 plays like a solid indie game... just with a truckload of AAA polish and a marketing behemoth behind it. Not worth half it's list price.

Eh, whatever. Valve fanboy or not, I thought the game was absolutely fantastic. I'm fine with people not liking it. I just wish people wouldn't insinuate that my love for it is solely based on my love for Valve. The minute they make a game I'm displeased with, I will judge it accordingly.

Alright, I see perhaps I wasn't clear. The AI with the English accent's type of comedy is what I didn't like, due to its generic and derivative nature. I'm not trying to trash the game as a whole, but I realize looking back at my post that's exactly what I did.

sethsez: It'd be nice to know if you're still in chapter 3, because that's why I was dismissing your complaints about the difficulty. If you are, then you're not even a third of the way through the game, so it's a bit too early to complain about things like plot, setting, difficulty, etc as though they're never going to change from here.

For presentation and setting, it gets a nice big 10/10 but the puzzles could have been a LOT better and the test chambers really are the weakest part of the game.
If that's the case you might be happier with the co-op stages, which (thanks to the addition of two more portals and an additional person) get a lot more complex. And if THAT doesn't do it for you, I'm sure it's going to be getting additional stages, and Valve's said a level editor is going to be made available as well.

I dunno, I got it for $35 with a $10 gift card and I think it was worth that easily. But then again, I'm also a fan of adventure games and stuff like Another World so I don't have a problem with presentation being a big part of the draw.

To be fair, you hire Stephen Merchant to do a voice and that style is about what you're gonna get. There was another voice actor for Wheatley initially (just for testing purposes) and it didn't have the same Office/Extras feel that Merchant provides just by being there.

Stephen Lord, one of the game's many artists/animators, voiced Wheatley back when he was still called Pendleton. He was always the placeholder voice; something they used to court the game to press/insiders.

Yeah, my point is just that his approach didn't really sounds Extras-y at all, and that to a certain extent I think Merchant is what's bringing most of that feel to Wheatley.

Yes... if you have four arms... otherwise forget it.

Plenty of puzzle in co-op mode requires tight synchronization between the two players with one player flying through the air while the other has to press buttons and open portals at the same time.

So one player playing both or even AI is out of the question.
I do agree that singleplayer puzzles were a bit too simple, but coop more or less makes up for that :) It even manages to introduce new combinations of puzzles, that you didn't use in singleplayer.
One thing I was waiting for, though, was a giant puzzle combining all the elements of the game... I want hard light bridges leading into tractor beams, while holding a laser cube to shoot at turrets :)) I can't wait for the editor

I am not a fanboy and I don't care for episode 3 that much, but this game just hit a sweet sopt for me, sorry for sounding harsh before :)

I'm not buying it because I'm not interested in making Valve churn out even more hl2 mods that exploit one gimmick over and over at $50 digital download. I suppose I have to support them too when they release their big new game, DoTa 2. Until their next title has the words Half, Life, Episode and the number 3 on the title, I'm not clicking on checkout on the steam client.
