The Glados@home page now provides us with a unique opportunity - it looks like we get real-time statistics over how many people have activated their copy of Portal 2 on Steam. In the couple of hours since the launch, it appears some 73,000 have activated their game. Which is pretty damn good numbers for a game being released at these hours of the day, and hours before the initially announced release date. No doubt we'll be seeing a lot more activations as the day progresses, reviews are put up, and words start to spread. Hopefully, Valve will keep that site up, so we can keep analyse Portal 2's performance.
I hope GOG will do something like this for the Witcher 2. We rarely get a chance to do meaningful market research these days of digital distribution, and I for one am dying to know how the AAA PC market is really doing.
Edit: Hmm. The number suddenly jumped down to 68K. Maybe what we are seeing is people actually playing the game, not the number of activations? Still interesting. Or it could just be a random number. That would be boring.
