Hello all,

Just noticed that these 2 games in my wishlist are on sale, but I can't choose between them!

Zeus + Poseidon - only became aware of this game through browsing on GoG, but it seems like my kind of game, I've always enjoyed RTS, and ones set in historical settings appeal. I like that there are random events and the smattering of mythical characters and powers.

Populous - this was a game I always wanted to play when I was younger, but did not have a machine that could play it, and I remember thinking it would have been amazing. Ditto Black & White, which again I didn't get a chance to play, but Populous seemed to stay more in my mind. I liked the premise of becoming a god, the mix of fantasy (I love spells, what can I say?) with city building, the seemingly Settlers style of play.

So, I thought my first post would be to ask what you guy's think, maybe have an informal poll? And to say hello to what seems to be a lovely community, I've been lurking for a while, but hope to have a more active role as time goes by.

If you want "God" I'd go Populous. The others are more or less city/civ sims. They are GREAT city/civ games but they aren't god games, though you do use gods.

Very different games, Zeus is an intellectual sim-city like management game, regarded as one of the best of them all. Populous 3 is just

Populous gets very hectic and fast paced with spells flying all over the map which is ball-shaped. But you do get to summon volcanoes to erupt under tiny people.

Zeus is city-building. And more city-building. And city-watching. It's a different kind of entertainment.

If you like some humor in your games, I can assure you will not be disappointed with Zeus. The comments your contestants make when they loose the olympics are priceless.

"The sun was in my eyes! How can I perform well with the sun in my eyes?!"

Go for Zeus, Popolous was special at the time, but it aged pretty badly and really isn't that special anymore. Zeus on the other hand still looks beautiful and is still pretty special.
Although if you think it's a RTS and you want RTS, then maybe not. But if you consider Sim City to be a RTS because it's not turn based, then you're good to go.

Well, you actually can form units and battle it out on the city map and to a lesser degree on the overall map. But it's a smaller part of the game, with the city building one at it's core. Still...

I agree with this, Populous simply hasn't aged well, especially 3.
If you want to try Populous, I thought 1 and 2 are more fun than 3 but only if you feel you're in a particular retro-ish mood. I recently fired up Populous 1 on the Amiga 500 at a friend's place, eventually he had to kick me out because his kids were going to sleep...the game is repetitive and simple but highly addicting. After one session you'll have had your fix though.
