As an American I am not offended - I don't trust what American news sources say 99% of the time either, they try to sensationalize everything - guaranteed that the tragedy that has happened in Russia will be 'top news' for at least 2 weeks here, even though the news channels themselves probably don't give a rats patookie.

Its horrible.
Even with ultra-modern aircraft or anything bad stuff outside of human error or malevolence can happen. A number of years back I would watch "Seconds from Disaster." on national geographic. After about 45% shows, I would say to myself how the f does anything work; 45% was why the hell wasn't anyone paying attention, and 10% WTF.
The fact the BBC took its time confirming the fact speaks volumes. Our current over-hyped media would rather blurt out incorrect info first and then maybe correct later Its the "we have to be first mentality"
If you are a journalism major you are actually taught about putting a disaster preferably a fire in local news (if there isn't a local disaster you find another one) and this sensability has drifted up and magnified in the era of 24 hour news. I heard this second hand from a friend who has a friend that was a journalism major.

The speaker of the lower parliamentary house is officially president. As far as I know from the short time that I have been living here, there is no vice president.

Tragic. I haven't been around long enough to hear of a leader killed while they were still in office. This is shocking and very new to me.
I don't know much about the Polish Presidency, other than this man was a huge anti-Communist activist in the 80s. I don't know how he ran his nation or what the people think of him, regardless, it's terrible to lose any figure like this.

Damn. I don't think I've ever seen such a tragedy that had such a deep impact on an entire nation like this, both politically and emotionally.
From reports I'm reading in the US, and combined with wikipedia (not the most reliable) terrorism has been ruled out, due to the fact of the extreme weather conditions and the fact that the pilot just plain ignored advice.
