I Just purchased, downloaded and installed this game and followed each step in the trouble shoot page.

The game will only get passed the splash screen if I run it for 95 or 98 compatibility. Even so there is no audio and I can't start either campaign. An error message pops up and the game closes.

"Cannot load map s01.map" for the swat campaign and "Cannot load map t01.map" for the terrorist campaign.

Those files are in the map folder of the game directory.

Any help would be appreciated.

It might be a case of corrupted data. But I'm not going to say for certain that's the issue. You may need to consider a new download and install in a couple days if nobody else can help you.
I have tried several fresh installs all with the same problem.
There is a subforum for the Police Quest series, but looking at it superficially I haven't found any threads that describe a problem similar to yours. Have you tried contacting GOG support yet?
I have put in a ticket with the same information but was hoping some one else already had a fix.

And sorry about posting in the wrong forum but police quest 1- 4 are different games but looking closer there are swat 2 posts there.
Bumping, still no answer from gog. Hoping to solve this without refunding.

Are you running the latest version of Directx 9 ?

Have you tried disabling Visual Themes, Desktop Composition and Display Scaling ?

Installed the game into a folder outside of Program Files ?
I'm sure people would love to help you, but there's really not much to go on. What operating system are you using? Did you try installing the game outside of the Program Files directory? (Try, say, C:\Games\SWAT.) Sometimes installing in the default folder causes problems with file access.
I am using the latest version of Directx.
I have tried every combination of visual themes, Desktop composition, display scaling and compatibility mode.
I am using windows 7.

I will try installing outside of the default directory. Thanks for the idea.

I have finally gotten an email response from gog and will work with them on this and post the solution if we find one.
Good news! Installing to a new directory and running without compatibility worked perfectly. Thanks spindown and everyone else for your help.
I am [not so] sorry to necromancy this thread.

I have just submitted a ticket to GoG regarding the exact same issue.

The proposed solution of installing to a new directory did not work for me.

Other than fresh installs with registry cleaners,
if anyone has any ideas how to correct this problem it would be very appreciated.

It was a new directory outside of program files right? The "outside program files" bit is the important bit. Sorry if it's a condescending question, but it's best to make sure, y'know?

Yes it was; I have tried a few different places for the reinstall now, including restarts and registry cleaners in-between. Thank you for the reply. Any more ideas would be appreciated.

Hmm, have you tried ticking "Run this program as an administrator" in the compatibility options?

Thank you for another reply.

Yes, I have tried every mix-match of compatibility. As the OP states [my problem is exactly the same, but the solution is failing me] I can only get the program to run by running as administrator--otherwise, it turns "Not Responding" as soon as the menu is on-screen.

Any more ideas are welcome.
