My son told me he used to play a called Police Quest series. I see on goggle that these were old dos games. Can these types of games be coverted to play on XP systems without using dosbox. I have an old PC that I got off ebay that has dos 6.0, but I hate to have to bring it up from storage.

No you will have to run them through dosbox to get them to run on a windows system. Its not that hard though and there are guides to help you do this if your unsure how.
Yes, the goggle is right, they are indeed dos games. Unfortunately, DOSBox is needed, unless you can somehow magically get them working in compatibility mode.
Or just use the freaking DOS 6.0 computer.
Ignore. If the series is available on Direct2drive (which I didn't know) then purchases there should be fine on a modern computer, probably pre-configured dosbox versions.
If you still own copies of the games, just google Police Quest + dosbox and links will come up with guides on how to configure them.

Well, I suppose you don't NEED to use DosBox... you could always build a VM with dos in it. :)

Lucibel: I googled Police Quest and "dosbox" (an emulator that you can play older games with) and this site came up - has instructions you can follow:

You probably want to edit that link out as it has links to abandonware sites.

If you just imagined the abandonware link didn't exist, it's actually a pretty good guide.

Yea it is a good guide, maybe leave it up long enough for the op to use the guide then edit it out.
If you buy the Police Quest collection from a modern source like Direct2Drive, the games should already be configured to work in DosBox.
I'm not sure if you're averse to DosBox or whether you just don't want the hassle of setting it up - if it's the latter, then buying it pre-configured (much like the games on GoG) might help.

Thanks everyone. Yea, you're right. I need to get the old 486 PC out of storage. It's just that I was hoping it would show up here one day (the game not the PC :D) It only has a 15 inch screen, and internal speakers, but what the heck.

I don't know who you are, but I just wanted to say that your story warms my heart.

I keep it under my seat in my car.

If you keep it under your car seat, where do you keep your gun?

In his chest, it's like the Robocop holster mk.2.
