I actually think this is something worth getting behind. Some of these are good ideas, good enough, in fact, that I think we can legitimately demand these from the big gaming platforms.

This shit has gone too far and has been this way for way too long. I think it's about time we stand up and decide not to take it. The trolls and douches doing this stuff are free to have their own little love-fest of a community but it's been a long time since I've seen the up side of accepting them into ours.

Anyone else on board demanding these functions out of Live, PSN, Steam, and Origin?

If you don't believe it's this bad, go on XBLA, create an account and indicate that you are a female, black, Muslim in your bio. Play online for a single night. It really is this bad (and no, PC lovers, play HoN, LoL, or Dota 2 if you think PC is any better).

I honestly don't see anything wrong with those communities. If you suck, you suck, so fuck off and don't ruin my matches. Find yourself some n00bz to practice with, then when you get betterz you can plai with me.

Of course, this spoken from an elitist jerk, is for ranked matches only... if you want me to help you get better, I could do that. But seriously, I really wouldn't want somebody who doesn't know how to play to ruin my time.

EDIT: Thanks for the heads up, I missed a dozen episodes, will watch them tomorrow.

EXTREME PROFANITY INCOMING AS AN EXAMPLE - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

No, this is about messages like, "I will shit on your cunt, now go make me some cookies you bitch!" That happens way too much and there's really no excuse for it. There's a difference between being an elitist and being whatever kind of person says that!

How are they supposed to get better if they only play against other newbies and thus don't learn from better players? Playing only against other beginners teaches bad habits.

If a community is hostile to new players, expect it to die from attrition due to people leaving with no replacements.

And it's their (your!) own fault.

And this isn't even touching on the racist, sexist and homophobic crap these communities tend to be full of.
What a well-spoken argument presented in this video. Now, action!

This line of thinking is part of the problem. If you're such a special snowflake, you should be the one lining up matches with others you feel are on your level. If you think you're above playing with randoms, then don't play with randoms.

If you people want seriously stop people doing this. I have been researching long time different A.I:s what can detect "bad grammar or rude talking" and "can be used" to not be able to send message forward if it contains rude talking or so on.

A.I is artificial intelligence if someone did not know yet.

To make it very intelligent system, it should be "only scripted". It takes lots of work but can be done as open source for different "developers" who have multiplayer or communication implementation in their games or programs what using some sort of internet communication. This is not cencoring exactly, but more like "A.I as knownledgeable adult" to show kids not to throw stones to other people cars. :D

About bad grammar type cencoring.... it should focus stop only fast talking, not "language grammar errors". :D

(Banned words and sentences. This take lot of work and need community help, so that is why it should be open source)

Rude words can be clearly noticed from message so it will not be problem.

We had a case in 1999 where a guy got a 12 years sentence and psychiatrical treatment for harassing someone into a suicidal accident (well, the victim didn't want to die but followed the instructions of the caller which ultimately led into her death) via phone. He was found guilty of murder and six murder attempts.
Usually one gets life for murder here (minimum 15 years), but the caller was mentally ill.

Best chance however might be to write to Microsoft so they make sure the harasser is banned. I don't think the law enforcers would do much if no "dangerous" situation occurs, especially since there are also the issues with servers being in another country etc.

Yes, but they generally just make new accounts. Go check the gamerscore in some of those screenshots in the video, 750 means you've played maybe 2 games for a total of 10-20 hours apiece. What's being proposed here is that we, the players, lean on the big game platform owners to provide us the tools to police ourselves, instead of dealing with these issues in a very difficult and disconnected manner on a case by case basis.

Yes, but it is dangerous. What if that is misused to wrongly indict someone?
One would always need someone to make sure no innocents are hit, so in the end moderators would need to look into it.

How about people can only receive personal messages by actual friends or something, unless purposely set otherwise? That might at least make a common form of harassment impossible.
^ "Report" in WoW works pretty well. Maybe other online / multiplayer games should have something similar (if they don't have something already).

Well, the trick is to make sure you don't anything too terrible, simply auto muted by default, or possibly a mark of shame, somewhat like XBox Live does now for people caught cheating, they put a "Cheater" next to your name and reset your gamerscore to 0, everything else works normally.

I don't think anyone might object to an appeals system and one should probably be implemented.

Wow, they finally got rid of gold spammers? It took them over half a decade, but good on them!

Right click -> Report and you never see their posts again (at least, I've never seen another post from a character I've reported). I think it lasts for the lifetime of your session, but that's not an issue, since because you've already reported them, they'll be looked at by GMs and most likely banned / punished / whatever.

With 4.3.4 they've even added some new 'features' and stuff related to customer service and reporting players (yea, the whole patch was about that).

A good video with some good points and of course, something SHOULD always be done by companies to make the game experience the best possible one for the player, Communities is what makes online games

Unfortunately, the suggestions he listed, will not work due to them being abused the shit out of them

As much as I hate to admit it here: this all depends on the people who play Online, afterall, the internet is mostly what you call the "Wild West" And why did I get the impression that these people started gaming with the Xbox 360? This was always present, since the start of the internet, just like people were always assholes to other people since...well...they existed

I also have to note that it's quite disgusting how many Female players whine and complain about "Harsh people" online and expect some sort of "Special treatment"

Anyway, just my 2 cents, at the end all I have to say is....Welcome to the Jungle Baby
