Leukocyt: Ah yes, the so called PC-elitists creep out. Why do PC-only gamers believe that only RTS, MMOs and some obscure western RPGs can be deep and involving.
As for the "imaginary" list... just to name a few games:
Plot-wise:
MGS4, Heavy Rain, inFamous, Eternal Sonata, Siren, Valyria Chronicles, Alan Wake, Yakuza 3. Halo
Gameplay/Design-wise:
Little Big Planet, Forza, GT, Demons Souls, Armored Core, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, ModNation Racers
You see, the difference between me and you is that I don't have anything against PC games or PC as a platform. Yet you feel the need bash console gaming for an unknown reason (although I would guess you simply have never owned any console in your life). Does it make you feel any better?

Likewise, there are also many console gamers who like to bash the PC and say it's dying, no one is playing games on it anymore, you need a $5000 machine to play a game etc. They take a look at a non-mainstream genre like Adventure or Turn-based Strat and say only old-farts play those.
There's also many Turn-Based strategy, Simulation(theme/sim/flight), Wargaming, 4X games, Adventure games on the PC that are deep and involving.
Can't say I hate consoles though, I've grown up on/during the Nintendo, Sega era as much as I did for the PC. Just that I'm not really bothered about the modern day generation of consoles.

That is true. Generally gamers from one camp will have negative opinions (in most cases ungrounded) about the games and hardware from the other camp. But I guess that's how it just is.
I for one am happy that PC and consoles cater to different type of gamers.
You like strategies, western RPGs, adventure games you turn to the PC. You want music games, action adventures, jRPGs you turn to consoles. You want to play everything... well, tough luck, you need to buy everything ;)
PC gaming is certainly not dying and it's not true that it's much more expensive than console gaming. I think, that all those piracy reports, DRM issues and the success of Nintendo in recent year is warping the picture a bit.

Catshade: Ummm....thousands of people still play Ultima Online, a 13 year old MMORPG.
avatar
KingofGnG: Ok, so let's just be more specific: the largest part of MMO games except for a few ones will be shit in 2-3 years. So the MMO business is dumb. Hail to the dedicated on-line servers feature!

And another example of why you are REALLY not qualified to comment on this, no matter how many favorable news articles you find online.
Okay, maybe an MMO game won't be played for 30 years straight. But how many games get SOLD for 30 years straight? A lot of the classics that people still play are not actually sold anymore (Planescape, Baldur's Gate, System Shock, XCOM, etc) for the most part (some digital distribution services carry them, but most have crap support and are just a way to give money to the IP holders).
But let's say an MMO is alive for even two years (which is more than a lot of non-MMOs last for). That is two years of subscription fees for the publisher/dev and probably at least one year of new content for the gamer. This is in addition to the starting profits of actually selling the game.
Yeah, MMOs are REALLY stupid.

michaelleung: I dunno, Heavy Rain I suppose.

Having "heavy rain" and "deep gaming experience" in the same sentence would most probably cause me to either die laughing or have my head explode...

Could I suggest "Dragon's Lair" and "Space Ace" for the matter? :-D
Don't know why you guys assumed a defensive stance against a tiny question which wasn't offensive, but just a question.
IMO, the PC is not dying, and won't die soon because of its users.

Leukocyt, I do consider for myself that both consoles do have, yes, deep titles, but the PC has them in a superior number and in a deeper way/deeper mechanics. And I'm not the elitist guy who bashes consoles, ok? ;)
I can think of like 10 to 20 really polished titles, for each of the two consoles (not counting the downloadable titles). But you can't really compare Halo: Wars with StarCraft 2 or Sins of a Solar Empire, PS3's MAG with ArmA2, etc. Now do you get what I meant with that neutral question? ;)

tb87670: on this imaginary list?

It's not imaginary, man.
The consoles do have some exceptional titles (That's why we PC gamers envy the players of Alan Wake/Heavy Rain), but the PC has deeper titles in a higher quantity. You can even include indie games on this, like that time manipulation indie game, and other titles.
avatar
chautemoc: Check the links, you're mixing that with Halo: Reach.

Yep, sorry. So many Microsoft rumors in one day, then I ended mixing them. ;)
Don't know if you have an information from the inside, but for us gamers it's still rumors.

cw8: Just that I'm not really bothered about the modern day generation of consoles.

This is what I'm talking about. THIS console generation generally is just a mass production of titles (with some platform-exclusive, high quality games thrown in).
Just get the UE3 engine, make some skins and maps, and release it for the ps3 and x360: it's not deep enough for me.
avatar
Leukocyt: Oh come on. I'm so sick of people claiming that if you want deep and interesting games you can only find them on PC. That is a silly misconception. The fact the the platform has more RTS games and a few "S.T.A.L.K.E.Rs" doesn't automatically make it more interesting. You can get a gaming experience that is as deep and interesting as on the PC.

Ummm... I was saying in the future. I was saying that as consoles focus more and more on the everyman, PC can focus on the hardcore niche gamer, because it takes much less overhead and no permissions to make a PC game.

I sure don't.

KavazovAngel: I sure don't.

That's why some, not all, the pc gamers envy some AAA console-exclusive titles. Fixed.
I read an article about Red Dead Redemption, and it started off by saying that with the rise of cheap games making the same proportion of profit as the big guns, some analyists are predicting the end of AAA big budget single player games, period... unless Red Dead sells well.
Of course, this could all be guff, but still.

oh but you're so spechuuul and alternative *pinch cheek*

Got the link?
I don't think that Red Dead R. is that big of a milestone in SP games (I need to read more reviews of it, still), personally I would play it more for the MP.
But yeah, long SP games costs a lot to be developed, that's one more reason of why the market is being flooded with generic, 5hours SP games.

Not funny.
You guys don't need to start this kind of fight in the GOG boards. There are excellent games in all the platforms, some have more, some have less.

To each his own I guess. I, for one, find more games to my liking on consoles, but it's a matter of personal preference - like I'm not a big fan of strategies (oh, how I wish they would make a new Dark Omen though) but I love action adventure games which are few and far between on PC.
And I do find your comparison of games a bit unfair even though you are absolutely right. :)
