Hello everyone i seem to have hit a brickwall....i have bought age of empires 3 it installs good and i have the system to run it but i am more used to the older versions of windows and windows 7 is waaaay to advanced for me and yes i am very bad when it comes to computers i admit..... anyway the problem is that when i try to run the game a box appears and says the colour scheme you are using is not compatible with age of empires 3 can someone please explain to me how i can fix or change my settings thanks heaps people

Microsoft says, AOE3 is compatible with Windows 7, so the issue is not with the OS.
I recommend updating your VGA driver.
Also, choosing better title for your topic could help a lot.

Try applying 'Xp SP3 compatibility', 'disable visual themes' and 'run as admin' to the game shortcut.
I don't have the game but that's what i'd try first.

is vga a graphics card? if so its 1gig

Try right clicking the shortcut to the game and getting properties and find the compatibility tab. Select "Run in 256 Colours" & "Disable Visual Themes"

Um... AoE 3? 256 colours? Isn't that a few too many?

ok i tried 256 colours but my computer changed completely and had to system restore i gotta reinstall aoe :(

Hmm for 3 it might be, I mostly suggested it to disable the areo system since thats where I suspect the problem might be

Wouldn't disabling desktop composition also on the shortcut have the same effect ? - shutting down aero i mean.

okay i think i now know what to do.....i got to get my self a shredder, its the answer to all my problems yes yes ill shred everything that dosent listen to me then we see how it likes that

A restart would have fixed it. Compatibility mode changes are only active while the program is running.
