What people apparently fail to realize is that youtube is not small time fanpage made for art. It is a multi million business done by one of the wealthiest firms on the planet. They earn money by other peoples work. They are actual pirates in the proper application of the word (if there is any). The only reason GEMA is blocking vids on youtube is because youtube is refusing to pay the proper fees. You know, the fees you pay because you earn money with other peoples music. And we are not talking about small potatos here. GEMA doesn't want the vids down, they want to get paid for their commercial usage.

I'm certainly no fan of the GEMA and they are currently doing other, really nasty stuff in Germany that is an actual problem. But I agree with the judgement here at least in essence.

The "uproar" it is causing is much more troubling. Because it shows how effective Google is handling public opinion with their PR department.

It is not about having the GEMA stuff or anything. It is about the desaster for Youtube. If it wants to be available in Germany, it must completely redesign its infrastructure, implement word filters, more or less watch through all new content etc.
It would be a financial desaster that might as well cause the end of Youtube.

So it is better to fully block it in Germany and allow me to see stuff with proxy anyway.

Except that 1945 is around the time Hitler went kaputt. I wouldn't exactly call his death a great loss to culture.

i only meant 1933-1945 as a horrible time for art because these sickos outlawed "non-aryan" art
