I've just got rid of my PC and transitioned over to Mac.

I'd LOVE to be able to play some of the classic PC games on my Mac that I've brought from GOG. Seeing as most of the ones I own use DOSBox or ScummVM I assumed it would be easy to extract the .exe file and use the files in the respective Mac versions of their emulators (I was wrong).

Without using virtualisation, Wine etc does anybody know how I can do this as I've tried Stuffit Expander and The Unarchiver and both fail to extract the contents of the GOG .exe files?

Any help is appreciated

I do feel the need to say that if you want to be a gamer, don't buy a Mac.

That said, I know there are quite a few Mac users on the forum, and I'm sure one of them will be able to help you. I think there is a tool which can unpack the contents of an InnoSetup package (the format GOG uses), but I don't remember what it's called.
You could use Boot Camp and install Windows on the Mac. Basically dual boots Windows and the Mac OS. Boot Camp is built into the Mac OS so completely official :

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1461

So at least that way you can do your gaming via Windows and everything else like that and have the Mac for whatever you use it for. Mac isnt great for gaming unfortunately
I should mention at this point that WINE isn't virtualisation - it just allows you to run the Windows native executables under its host environment (in my case Linux) - and for me it works fine under Ubuntu.

But as Wishbone says, innounp is your man.
Thank you for the suggestion.

I really don't want to use Windows at all so Boot camp is out for me (I personally prefer OS X and have no desire to use Windows again).

I have no issue with Macs not being a natural gaming platform as I have my consoles for that. However it would be nice to play some of the games I've brought from GOG such as 7th Guest, Broken Sword etc again.

Thank you both for the suggestion.

I've Googles innounp but it appears it is a Windows only program. If there is no software available on Mac to do it, I guess I'll have to use someone else's PC to extract the files so I can use them on my Mac.

Viggles, the developer of Boxer (which if you don't know about is the best way to play Dos Games on the Mac), has the following to say:
One big thing Boxer still can't do yet is extract files from GOG’s Windows-only installers. This is a major pain in the ass for Mac Boxer users, and if you'd like to see this feature make it in then the best thing to do would be to support the Pinnounp project which should hopefully be portable to Boxer once available. (If you have have direct experience with the innounp packaging format and can help out with C code, please feel free to contact me directly too.)

So until that is ready, use Wine and Wineskin to run GOG's .exe - Wineskin is easy to use (I learned how, so it really can't be bad! :P) - especially for this purpose where you just want to run the installer and not the game - and free and then just dump the resulting game folder onto Boxer's import game and it should work.

Aye that gives pretty much the detailed explanation for what I wrote above ...

Dang I may have been too late. I hope the OP saw my post (is offline now) - there are a lot better ways than asking a friend to unarchive each and every DOSBox/ScummVM game! Ah well, I'm sure they'll be back. :)
If you'll excuse the self-promotions...

A while ago I posted a comprehensive thread on how to play GOG titles on the Mac here: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/gog_games_on_mac_os_x_a_how_to/ - I haven't updated that post in some time (e.g. with the release of CX11/WINE 1.4, previously unplayable games like Fallout, Fallout 2, Blood 2, and Shogo: MAD actually work now), but that is on my to-do list...

I also have a semi-regularly updated GOG mix here: http://www.gog.com/en/mix/mac_friendly_gog_games_4 - with each game, I've made sure to include a brief summary of any configuration notes and instructions to run them within CrossOver* and/or how to get them to work with available open-source ports. I also have to update that as well...

*As a disclaimer, I'm a beta tester and advocate for Codeweavers/CrossOver, but pretty much all of these games work great in Wineskin, a freeware alternative that's slightly more powerful (but can be a little more complex to setup).

That was NoanRand's GOG mix actually. :) No offense to him, I appreciate his efforts, but what kind of irked me a little about his GOG mix was that he put up his listed games but didn't put any kind of detailed info or instructions about how to run them. For a lot of people just a one-word line saying "CrossOver/WINE" isn't very informative, and I say this from the perspective of one experiencing a lot of frustration in trying to find the right info on how to get games working in WINE or CX/CXG on the Mac.

Edit: Yeah, you did. Total Reading Comprehension Fail there. Thanks just the same. Sorry about that! :)

Out of curiosity, what's the advantage of using the universal extractor (which is Windows only right? so it has to be run in Wine anyway, yes?) over simply running GOG's .exe installer in Wine?

You can skip the EULA. Other than that, nothing, I guess. Just providing the OP as many options as possible.
