I'm currently listening to music from PlanetSide in the background, which made me think back to the glorious times when I played it and how it's the best MMO game EVER and the only true MMOFPS to date... But unfortunately poorly maintained at first and a victim of its own lack of advertising (and, subsequently, lack of popularity).
So, any other PlanetSide vets out here? :)

Speaking of real MMOFPSes like PlanetSide, Tabula Rasa is free to play until it shuts down on February 12. I liked it, though it didn't have much in the way of innovative mechanics though.
i played the "Trial" and Yes it is very fun!!!! :D!

Hehe, I played planetside when it first came out many moons ago. Sadly my comp couldn't run it very well. Still had some great early morning/late night raids on places.
If the game had the numbers to support it I'd so give it another shot.
SporkOfDeath, Markov, Vanu Sovereignty. Can't remember my ranks but I was in the Brotherhood of Fallen Angels.
We totally kicked ass. That game was so facking awesome. I think you can play it free now though you're limited in BR.
Heh, here's my character's page.

Oh yeah, here was my other character that I made when the game first came out but then got tired of a stopped playing for a long time then came back later and started the other character.

Ha! I just reinstalled PS actually...sadly, it was pretty much completely empty.
Heah! I played it for some time. Actually there was a re-launch of this title in Russia 2 years ago. So it added some fun to the game.
P.S. Check Werner, I think all new meat is there :)
I tried planetside when it came out many years ago, on a computer that would be considered ancient today with a 56k modem. Of course, the lag in the game was unbearable. It seemed like an unfortunate case of a good idea that was simply reaching too high for the technology of the day. I do hope someone tries something similiar again someday, because Ilike the basic idea of massively multiplayer gaming, but can't stand the standard click/autoattack/loot gameplay that they all use.
Heh, that's an interesting point you brought up. Seems like developers learned there lesson about reaching too high for the technology. Now days they're very careful not to push any sort of envelope.

Crysis?
Well ok, anything besides graphics.

TheCheese33: Crysis?

Crysis is without a doubt one of the best optimised games I've ever seen, I was able to run it on ATI Radeon 9600 (!!) without that much trouble and I have no idea why it's brought up every time 'too high system requirements' are mentioned - it's not like anyone was forcing people to play it on maximum settings...

Well, I guess the fact that I have such a crappy processor may be the reason I can't get any decent frames out of it. :(

But they hyped it as graphics graphics graphics. I can't imagine many people said "well, i can play it on minimum settings without the eyecandy...."
I don't know any PC gamers who DON'T want to run games at near to the maximum settings.... playing on minimum just seems like it isn't the real game.
Personally I just wait a few years until my pc is powerful enough, then pick it up cheap... so i'll be playing crysis in about 2010
Back to the topic (which Crysis shouldn't be :P), I suppose you make a valid point about reaching too high... SOE does, however, have a bad reputation for killing their own MMOs... ;)
The net code looked like it was written to cope with high-density action on 56k modems, which was probably a good idea at the time, but the resulting "warping" issues were never fixed, which is the game's biggest problem (as they made the game quite unfair). I think they could make some changes and allow PlanetSide to use up more resources (connection-wise), since nowadays practically everybody (and their grandparents) has some sort of relatively high-speed Internet connection. ;)
This month looks like it's gonna be a handful, but I think I'll resubscribe in two weeks to see how the game is doing... :)
