I hope it's not a direct sequel but a completely new story with new characters. Having played Planescape pen and paper, I know it has endless possibilities for storytelling. Yes please, I'd like that.
Games in the Planescape Multiverse are welcome.

But they can just leave Torment be.

BadDecissions: I also would like to see a new story with the same setting. They could have cameos from some of the original cast if they absolutely had to, but no Nameless One.
This and hopefully a new engine.

Maybe they'll use Unity with the additions / modifications they've made for Wasteland 2, or work with Obsidian and use Project Eternity as a base...

If anything does get made, I think it'll probably end up being called Torment: [subtitle]
Just to clarify, this won't use Planescape. As Colin McComb explained, WotC retired Planescape for 4th edition and he approached them but they have no interesting in licensing it out. This wouldn't use the Planescape setting. Nor would it pretend to follow up directly on PS:T's story, both McComb and Chris Avellone have said that's not much of an option.

Instead, it'll take the core goals and themes of Torment and write a new story in a new setting that shares similar goals and ideas. Use Torment as a label for a thematically tied franchise. Dense writing. Philosophical themes. A personal story. Subverting RPG tropes. But not Sigil, not The Nameless One.

That's good enough for me.

And with this my reservations have evaporated.

I just get this itch whenever somebody says PS:T sequel ....
PS:T was great and a sequel would be awesome but I would just like for Avellone and McComb to release another D&D game, there are plenty of interesting places around the realms and I wouldn't hold anything against a game that decided to go somewhere new. Just, for gods' sake, don't go back to Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter or the Underdark, we've been there enough.

so, project eternity?

mxh178: so, project eternity?
Hmmm. The interesting thing there is many people read Eternity to be the Torment spiritual sequel Chris Avellone talked about. But it's not, it's Sawyer's baby. And I don't believe it has the goal of subverting the setting or being very out there as a setting, but closer to normal high fantasy. I also have not heard it has the goal to tell a personal, smaller-scale story. Perhaps I missed some updates, though.

Actually, Project Eternity aimed to be another Baldurs Gate. So .... no.
but if you take away the things that made planescape planescape, it's just another eternity engine game with complex choices

if you take baldur's gate and remove the setting, party, characters, it's "the same" as planescape

so considering we know basically nothing about either project eternity or this other rumored game, i don't think it's too unreasonable to suggest that if the main thing advertised about them is mature themes and choices that matter, they might have something in common

Torment: The Crossroad of Planes. Or similar. A la Legacy of Kain.
Here's an article from Eurogamer on the news.

grviper: We needs a Devil May Cry clone with Lady of Pain as the main character.
As an "overgod", she'd be a bit ... overpowered. Unless you nerf her, and then what's the point?

How about a God of War clone with TNO in the Blood War?
Just consider the PST ending, it can be a direct sequel of the story :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRidpOpQfPk&feature=player_detailpage#t=19s
