PS:T is one of the finest RPGs around.
It's even better since Qwinn's mods became available and for anyone thinking of playing it I would strongly recommend checking out http://www.shsforums.net/index.php?showtopic=38180 from where the mods can be downloaded.
Yes, a rare wine indeed.

There is also Ghostdog's UI mod that can be used in conjunction with the high-res mod. It is also compatible with the 2 and 4 cd versions of the game.
To tell the truth, I don't see the the need for either mod. I am playing the game as is on my LCD monitor for my laptop and it looks fine to me. I guess those mods are required by the grafixwhores or something.
And if you're looking for a good attempt at PST style storytelling there is Mask of The Betrayer for NWN2. It comes highly recommended in most places but it is no PST. I have the expansion but I haven't played it yet because I am weird about finishing the original campaign first and then importing my character into MOTB. But the damn OC is so horrible at times. And it has the godawful Bioware romance plots which make Harlequin novels seem like Tolstoy in comparison.....

tbh, I wouldn't bother importing your char from the OC to MOTB, It didn't really feel that connected to me, and it's links to the OC are possibly some of the weaker aspects.
My main problem was the dull unlikable characters in the OC in particular. Perhaps BG/BG2 spoils you in that respect, the current need to voice all dialogue is killing dialogue heavy exchanges, so building characterisation is tough. It is far better in MOTB though, in general anyway.
cool. i'll try it with those mods this time. Though it wasn't the graphics or the UI that put me off the first time.
While I like the odd FPS, i usually play games for the story... but that opening area had nothing interesting at all (in terms of characters, story, art or anything. Mort came off as a poor rip off of that droid from KotOR... though of course he was there first. )
The one thing i can't stand in games is mindless repetition...
That said, PS:T sounds like just my kind of game... i'm sure i just need to give it a bit more of a chance.
Try talking to every zombie, some of them have some intresting secrets attached.
Seriously, this is one increadible game.
One I'd put down 100 euro for without hesitation.

There was that tiefling(I think it was) that could patch you up.
There was dhull scribbling away in his book.
One of your old party members.
A zombie reciting a chinese poem (partially).
The game sucked, mmmkay??
/joke
I'm kinda surprised GOG hasn't released this game yet.
CD Projekt had distribution rights to Planescape: Torment for the Polish version. (If wikipedia is to be believed).

Thats probably just distribution rights for a translated version. If they had rights for the english version, I'm sure the 3400 votes on the wishlist would have them tempted to release it and rake in the cash...
I stole my CD's back from my brother over Christmas and am playing through it once more. Just got to the lower ward. There are so many little things I forgot about this game that make it awesome, like having someone pull out your intestines to check if you left something inside yourself during your last 'incarnation' (ring of AC +1!). Or finding your own severed arm in the sewer (but you have both your arms) or an eyeball you gave to a barkeep years before that you can now replace your current eyeball with. It's just got really morbid humor, which is fitting because your immortal and can't die (not a spoiler, you find this out very very very early on).
I also like it that you can talk to all your companions and get their backstories, as well as all the hidden little tidbits you can get out of talking to people rather than killing them. I also like the fact that you can say the same thing but with different meanings. The game gives you a choice of saying 'If you don't do this I'll kill you' but truthfully or by bluffing or with some other intent on multiple occasions. This might not seem like a big deal, but it lends a huge amount of nuance to your interactions with people and affects your good/evil status as well. I think currently I'm still true neutral. I tend to help people who are nice and kill people who annoy me, or sell them out.

I like the fact that you can lie in the game and it shows your text as doing so.
Lie: I will do as you ask.
Truth: I will do as you ask.
The setting in that game is vastly unexplored. Too much Faerun nowadays and nothing else from D&D.
Personally, i was never intrigued by the games with the "standard" D&D settings: they felt like just another fantasy game, but Planescape.....
Man, only reading some plot synopsis from Planescape: Torment gave me the shivers for its complexity and unique features.
Let's see: a world shaped by belief, the strangest party of characters ever put together, a protagonist who once successfully debated another man out of existence...this game was charming like hell!
Too bad i entirely missed it at the time it came out due to the fact that it was goddamn hard to find in my country, and now it sells for ludicrous prices on e-bay >:(
All my hopes now are on the GoG guys :) i'd buy this game in heartbeat if it was available.
Let's hope they manage to get the rights from the owners....as soon as possible :)
Or insta killing people if you had the right attributes ;)
*snap*
And a final boss you could talk to death in 2 seperate ways, 3 if you include the way you can do something to yourself to affect him...
Willing a man into existance if you use his name enough
Plenty of gross surgical things to do to yourself "Hey that eye looks familiar, hey that's MY eye! I'll just rip out this other one and whcak the old one in..."
A reformed succubus, a scots tiefling voiced by sheena easton, a pyromaniacal mage who's a constant inferno and likes it, a githzerai who gets stronger as he gets more confident...
DAMN I want this game again!

An alley that gives birth
A door that can only been seen if you don't see it.
A town that changes planes
A special doll of our beloved ruler (Lady of Pain).
Selling your corpse to the dusties for when you die (as if :D )
And so much more...
