Please note its 58Billion only at western prices it drops to less than 10 if you move it to Thirdworld prices (where they list most of the pirates as being)
Looks like GOG will have to work harder now to get additional publishers since those publishers won't bother reading past the topic title.

Piracy is still a problem, but not exaggerated like that.

BSA? Aren't these the guys whose figures have been debunked over and over? Even by the US government?
When you're data comes from BullShit Artists, beware.

GameRager: They use torrent tracker data as most of their "proof"...not taking into account resumed downloads, or people downloading games they then bought later...etc. Totally useless data imo, maybe useful only as an estimate, and not a realistic close one at that.
This plus the third-world comment above show how pointless this data is.

GameRager: Yet Delixe points to similar data to show how much pirates...err pirate.
No I didn't. I said organisations like the BSA do. You never bother to understand the arguments of anyone that doesn't agree with you and then you wonder why people have no respect for you or your posts.

GameRager: A simple you're wrong would have worked.....yet again you talk down to me like a 5 year old...and you wonder why I have little respect for some of your posts?
I'm talking to you as you deserve it IMO. You bring my name up in a thread I haven't commented in to make a snyde remark about me. "Delixe said this..." "Delixe thinks that..." How can you possibly know what I think when you make it up?

GameRager: 1. You have a snotty attitude then. 2. I can bring up whoever I want, if it pertains to the topic at hand & as long as I stay within certain limits. Also I only stated what you said & I read.
1. I couldn't give a monkeys.

2. Clearly what you read and what you understand are two different things.

GameRager: Your opinion.
It's not though is it? It's actually fact. In the other thread I said that companies like SonyDAC use these figures to sell their DRM products. Where did I say I use these figures?
avatar
GameRager: You kept bringing these figures up like they were totally accurate and reliable in the other thread(sadfrog).
Well that's just a complete lie.

GameRager: 1. You have a snotty attitude then. Many here have seen that i've been improving over the past few weeks yet you continue to let your general pessimism let you put your foot in your mouth towards me2. I can bring up whoever I want, if it pertains to the topic at hand & as long as I stay within certain limits. Also I only stated what you said & I read.
I must agree with Delixe in that bringing up his name was uncalled for. Also diffamation surely crosses those limits.

Anyway, common sense and a little thought easely debunks those reports about piracy. It's just some waving around with big numbers in the hope to spread fear...
It's just so superficial, I'd hope a company would at least put some deeper research in it, coming up with potential solutions/remedies instead of just making us return back in time to the dark times where great scale witch hunts have been organised.

I'm asking myself that if they're conducting these reports in the interests of the shareholders, they're basically hurting themselves in the process by not grasping the whole thing about piracy. It backfires at them if they're rowing against the flow, if they're actually taking seriously these reports that is.

GameRager: Nope. Also I know we have our differences, but i'd like you to believe that i'm not targetting you on purpose as part of any agenda or anything....just had to say that, feel free to do with it as you will.
You mis-understood my argument which often happens when piracy comes up. It's the nature of the beast. I never once said that piracy figures are accurate. What I said is you can get a good impression from sales figures, completed torrent downloads and games currently being played and tracked by services like Xfire and Raptr. I never said they were accurate as it still involves a lot of guesswork but they can give you an impression. It's a big difference.
Here is one of the ways this number is calculated
1. take the total number of parts sold (this means sound cards motherboards etc)
2. Subtract from this number the amount of licenses sold
3. Claim the difference is pirates and put a cash value on it

Seriously they've been caught doing this in the past they do not count part replacement etc they assume every new part bought requires a new license for all your software!
Funny, I was just having an off topic argument a few minutes ago. Should we start a flame war dedicated thread that people can be flagged to so that they won't muck up posts? I always feel like an idiot when I read a thread a few minutes after participating in an argument.
