U.S. Soldiers in Iraq have access to pirated regionless DVDs. They are allowed to bring them into the United States as long as they have no more than one copy of each disc. Isn't it ironic that our own government turns a blind eye to piracy but then giant corporations are allowed to sue private citizens for pirating the very same information?
that is to be expected, it is a government after all.
I have yet to see one that did anything that makes sense.
The video game biz is a very hostile place apparently. More hostile, in fact, than Iraq and Lazytown combined.

yes but unlike Iraq you are not risking your life (in most cases).

I wouldn't be so sure, I feel like secuROM could slit my throat the moment I do anything suspicious.

Mechanical arm and knife will be shipping with future versions, apparently.

They have to give them some concessions. Let's be realistic about this. Would you want to tell a lot of soldiers who are coming home from the battlefield that the entertainment items they bought abroad are not allowed in the country?

Drugs are illegal, mmkay.

Concessions to commit illegal acts? Hey fine but while that happens other Americans are being prosecuted for the same thing. It's a double standard. Piracy is illegal but more importantly NO ONE in the United States is above the law. Even U.S. Soldiers must obey the law. If the law says illegal copies are prohibited then they should be punished just like the rest of us. It's a slippery slope and I for one am disgusted that big corporations can sue individuals for tens of thousands of dollars they obviously can't afford when they're caught pirating a few movies or cds or games and then on the other hand the government just lets this illegal material into the country.
Piracy cannot be justified in an argument just as this double standard cannot be justified either.

Is fine, the soldiers is out there invading contrys for you guys, the least you can do is give them a bit of slack when it comes to copyright issues.

I'm not entirely sure that murderers who invade countries and slaughter people without remorse are the kind of people I'd want to give slack...
It's all a matter of perspective, though. Same with piracy. Unfortunately, the only perspective that's ever respected, is the perspective of those with the most money and power.

Agreed. Who gives a toss. OP should be worrying about more important things than some soldiers bringing home their bootleg Titanic discs or whatever. Its probably all they have access to over there anyway.
Someone derail this thread and make it about kittens! Dont derail it into a political thread or i will drop puppies on your asses.

oh comon it is not really murder more like excessive self defence.
besides as chaotix says they properbly can't even buy the legal stuff over there anyway.
Owning a object that infringes on a copyright isn't acutely illigal. You can't be sent to prison for owning a few bootleg copies of Weekend at Burnies.

DOOD where can I download that? I LOVE Weekend at bernies!
Heh kidding.. ALthough WAB is a good sat afternoon or early morning at 2 am movie...
The thing is: Who cares if they bring in one copy each of movies?
I know I don't. More power to the US soldier I say; they went through something I haven't been able to. Let them keep their bootleg copy of the Hulk and get on with their lives.
