These baby chickens hatched on March 13th and 14. The Rooster I have is a Rhode Island Red, 2 hens are Barred Rock and other 2 are Production Red. The chicks are either Double Red from the Production Red hens or Black Sex-Links from the Barred Rock hens, the Sex-links are chicken hybrids types that can be sexed by markings on them due to unique genetic mixes. White-yellow spots on head means Rooster, solid black with only red spot on chest is a hen for Black Sex-links.

I mean... cool!
Hey interesting hobby (or livelyhood!) as my cousin does the same and I'd like to have a stab at it if ever I decide to move back to the countryside, urban foxes and cats are a particular nightmare in the area I'm living in at the moment, not to mention the enclosed spaces and mountains of concrete! ¬_¬
Anyways, great post, thanks. :)
*Cheeky side note, remember to focus on the chicks next time with the camera as opposed to the background!! :P
Aww, they're so cute! Makes me want to have some.
I always wanted a pair of chickens, I'd call them Korma & Vindaloo just for a cheap laugh
Mother and Clucker, surely! ^^
Do they smell? For some reason I've always thought that chickens reek.
Add peatmoss to the woodchips, peatmoss is used for trapping as a covering for traps because it absorbs and neutralizes smells. I happened to mix some in one day and it worked. By the way my camera is crap, the lack of focus is an issue with hardware not user. As a hobby it's fun if you tame them from when you get the chicks, but I am doing this as a partial source of food and plan to keep about 25 hens and the roosters (maybe 25 or more) will be used for food also since I got heavy breed chickens, good egg layers and edible at same time.
Update, I bought a few chicks from a hatchery and they bought over some kind of bacteria. I had a baby chick that I hatched die from respiratory disease, one of the red ones. Makes me sad, had to cremate the body and am putting anti-biotics for chickens into the water. Sadly if this is a virus there is nothing I can do but count my losses and see what I get a week later.

Well that's a bummer. Do you name them?

Usually there's around 5 or so chickens in a flock that like me the most so I give those names, like there's one Black Sex Link pullet with a brown left cheek, white chin and black right cheek I call Jester. Got a Black Sex Link cockerel I named Bert though I don't know why. Depends on the owner really.
AWW CUTE!
Just to throw in something random, I wonder how many of the dumbasses at my school would deep fry them.
