I have a 400+ CD Collection. All of them have been converted to mp3s to my hard drive and backed up as wavs to two external drives. The CD's are then sorted into the five or so storage bins I bought and eventually put in the closet. Although currently, they are sitting in the corner of my dining room until I can clean out my closet. So, maybe sometime next year they will be moved into the closet.
As for itunes, I don't have nor will I ever have an itunes account. Not because of the perceived DRM inclusion, but because I don't own an ipod/iphone/mac/or any other apple product.
I still have my Sony Walkman X with Noise Cancelation built in. I really would love to get an updated player, but none of the current crop do active noise cancellation, and that is a necessity for my airplane traveling life.

I just saw at my local Half-Priced Books EVERY Cannibal Corpse CD in existence in a clearance rack that I had to have put on hold, and a few Darkthrone, Mastodon, Deicide, and Dream Theater albums. This is completely irrelevant to your question, I just wanted people to know I am in heaven at the moment.
The cd i said i ordered is this one
http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-Skin/dp/B000GY735U/ref=ntt_mus_dp_dpp_1

it's a very cool, yet very forgotten band, you should definitely check it out

some samples, album versions just aren't on youtube

i came to know the band through this, a remix of the second songs. It was on some soundtrack or another

Reminds me of the time I bought The Bleeding (around 1995), got home and realized it was the censored version. I am not sure how that CD can be censored, yet the CD I bought was. Most of the titles of the song had been replaced with asterisks. I never listened to the CD to see if a bunch of the lyrics were bleeped out, but it would have been interesting. I hadn't opened the packaging, yet and returned for the correct version of the album.

They really need to have a different section of the store for those that need the censored version of an album or just put censored across the face of the album. I've been duped too many times

Darling_Jimmy: I haven't noticed but I haven't been looking. My CDs get shoved into printer paper boxes for long-term storage the moment I rip them to CUE/WAVs. I only prefer the superior audio quality; I can live happily without the physicalness.

darthspudius: No offense (i mean that...) but that kind of mentality is so bad for the future of music. If my parents/grand parents had that mentality I would not of heard half of the great bands I grew up with. Vinyl records are out growing even the CD and DVD, that kind of lasting power is very important to preserving the classics. It kind of makes me sad knowing if I have great grand kids their musical heritage is going to be an account on iTunes.
This is funny, but for me would have never happened. My parents listened to 8 tracks and records. I grew up during the cassette tape era and after graduating High School CDs started to come out. I didn't own an 8 track and even though I did have a record player, I did not want any of the music my parents liked.
You must've had some really cool parents. I had to listen to country music, Elvis Presley, and Disco music as I grew up.

You dare say anything negative about The King!!!

darthspudius: I own some nice rarities aswell. Amazon mp3's are not bad, but they do bollocks up a fair bit. Ok I have to ask... why do you not accept 192kbs? I know the quality really suffers under that number but there is no clear audible difference with 192 and anything higher. Atleast I have never heard a difference. I'm sure there's some technical reason but if you can't hear the difference is it worth the hassle?!
Your grand kids will be freaking greatful for iTunes.

Can you even imagine the mess we'd be in if the third world started to fully embrace the materialistic limbo we're in (and make no mistake, they are catching up)?

Anything you can make digital or can squeeze in a single device, just do it already.

Also...

Cormoran: You have no idea how bloody difficult it was for me to find all of Rammsteins albums when I first got interested in them, now it's as easy as a single search on itunes. I can get albums of garage bands from the US and Europe, bands just starting out that I enjoy the sound of but would never have even had the chance to hear just ten years ago. IMO we're in the golden of music distribution, sure our HDDs can age and crash, but then vinyl can warp and crack, tapes can stretch and tear, CD's can scratch and shatter.
This.

That's almost what I do. Except I go the CUE/FLAC route and I use "really useful box"es for the storage part. They're great and are easily stackable in case I want to get the physical disc for some reason.

I'm not sure about that disc, but I know that In Utero had the words censored on the package, but no changes made to the actual songs. This is something they did to appease walmart.

The second version I grabbed had the Parental Discretion Advised label on it while the other did not. Although, maybe that label wasn't around or mandatory back in 94/95.
