I know I'm rather new here and probably haven't earned the marks to ridicule. But I, while reading the reviews of games from library here, the reviews it seems when I come across a game that may not have been some definite AAA title in its day, there are people here that almost seem like their offended GOG released it. I'm not talking just a negative review of the game, I'm talking comments that act disgusted that it was released at all. Todays release was the latest, but I've seen the comments on other games. I personally haven't played a lot of PC games especially older ones so I've been sifting through all the games here to see which ones I'm interested in.

While a game may not be widely considered good, there is usually somebody that may have enjoyed the title and will be quite happy to see it here, DRM free and working with new OSes.

It's not like there is a limited number of games GOG can have and that game being in the library is somehow taking a spot away from something you think should be there instead. No, it's just another game that increases the library of games this site has and attracts more and more people. Yes it delays the possible release of game you may be hoping for by filling a weekly release spot but it's not preventing the release of other games. Sure it may only sell a little but every sale is a good thing. And it's being here doesn't suddenly make the other games here any less good.

I'm sure there is games out there you love that the majority of other people may not think is good at all.. I for instance am a huge Legacy of Kain fan, but unlike 90% of fellow Legacy of Kain fans, the game Blood Omen 2, the black sheep of the series, I find to be very fun and enjoyable to play. It admittedly as a LoK game did many things wrong. But on its own it's great game at least to me. It too may be a game that others here may despise. But I'd buy it in a second even though I own it retail just to support it's being here.

Yes I was let down when I saw Conflict: Desert Storm a few minutes ago was the game today, as I like others was hoping for something probably bigger and more widely popular form Square's library. I've never even heard of the game before. But it doesn't mean GOG was wrong for hosting it. I'm sure there is some that do like that game and were/will be pleasantly surprised to see it and buy it.

Sorry for the long winded rant, but I was a bit annoyed at some read reviews.

I agree completely, especially with games like Deus Ex and Thief Gold just released. Some people are acting like this release is the end of GOG.

You cant even call some of the comments reviews on the Conflict Desert Storm page. Things like Dont Buy and 1 star literally dont help a prospective buyer at all.

Is it really that difficult to give reasons to back up what you are saying?

It may not be for everyone but it will have a select userbase. Personally not keen on it so decided not to comment, that is not to say others wont like it.

I was thinking abolutely the same, when I saw the very first two reviews to the game.

There will always be people who only want to complain because they are waiting for other games, but there are also people who will enjoy these games.

I am not that much into War Shooter, but this game might have his right to exist here as well as Master of Orion 3, which most people hate, but I think there are one or two who might enjoy it :)

Those one star comments are usually of the butt hurt variety. It's not a game they like so they just call it a turd to get back at GOG for nto bowing down to them as if GOG revolves around them.

The more I think about it, the happier I am they released this game. Releasing a rougher game every once in a while is better than releasing only gold and then only have the leftover lesser games being released for a month straight.

Reviews on this site have become a joke. Someone suggested a while back that only those people who have actually bought a particular game from GOG should be allowed to review it; didn't agree at the time, but after seeing today's pointless three word reviews that say absolutely nothing about why the game is so bad (an important factor, since what you consider bad might not be something I consider bad), I'm beginning to think that GOG should restrict the review process. At least then we might actually get honest reviews of the actual product GOG is selling, instead of bitching about GOG not meeting unwarranted expectations.

Protip: don't read first-day user reviews. On anything.

If you click the "see all user reviews" link on ANY game, you'll see many of these one-sentence or totally unhelpful reviews. The problem is that when a game has just been released, there aren't enough total reviews or enough viewers to help weed out the good from the bad yet. If you come back next week, I can guarantee that the first 3 reviews listed will be more helpful.

As a corollary to that, you should always click that "see all reviews" button for any game you aren't personally familiar with, because of the issues listed here already. You should check out the game's forum, too.

And the main problem is the term 'good', which is highly subjective. For example Catshade in a few posts above here brings out Messiah as being of questionable quality - I would say it is an underrated gem with a few faults.... the point is that every game would be good to someone in some-way - the problem happens when some feels the need to enforce their value judgement as an universal truth.

I agree with you guys. It's one thing to complain about it in the forum section, where most of us usually write in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way when criticizing a particular game, but it's something completely different if you put a review on the game page with a single sentence and a star at most. Thanks to you, we all come out as childish and entitled.

It's the way of things. No matter what, there will be people that complain.

GOG does a sale: people complain the discount isn't enough.
GOG does an announcement: people complain that there's not enough info (or that it's just an 'announcement of an announcement')
GOG gets games from a specific publisher/dev: people complain there's no bundle pricing.
GOG sells a game for $9.99: people complain it should be at $5.99
GOG gets a game: people complain it's not 'good' or 'old' enough.


Now, to be fair, there are just as many (or more) people that give GOG kudos in all these situation as well.

Get used to it and just learn to tune it out. It's better for your sanity that way.

There's been a lot of hostility on this site for some reason. I'm not sure why. People getting pissed off that games don't have X feature, that GOG isn't releasing X game, that the sale structure sucks, and even posters going after each other over issues related to GOG in some ideological issue.

It's really weird and disheartening to see.

That's basically how I go by in life anyway. It infinitely puzzles me how some people can't just ignore certain issues, it's like everything is meant to be valid in some way and if someone calls you i.e. fat you are fat by a definition of a credible man. Or, conversely, he's an idiot, don't listen to him. Easily fixed.

Yeah but in most cases what games are good is based on opinion and the two games you mentioned, the reviews for them are pretty divided. those game may not be something Like Fallout, Baldur's Gate or Dues Ex where almost everyone says there good and everyones wants them, but they are worth putting on here for the people that really want them and see them as a hidden Gem.

As for the name of the site. Sure let's change the name to "Bad, Averge And Good Old Games" for awhile and see how it goes.
