Catshade: I partially blame GOG, since people keep expecting all games here to be good and old. It never was since the beginning. Just go to the complete game catalog, sort by date added, and you can see that their earliest releases also contain a few games of questionable quality such as Messiah and Lionheart.

deshadow52: Yeah but in most cases what games are good is based on opinion and the two games you mentioned, the reviews for them are pretty divided. those game may not be something Like Fallout, Baldur's Gate or Dues Ex where almost everyone says there good and everyones wants them, but they are worth putting on here for the people that really want them and see them as a hidden Gem.

As for the name of the site. Sure let's change the name to "Bad, Averge And Good Old Games" for awhile and see how it goes.
The problem with saying every game has to be "Good" is that "Good" is intangible. It's relative to the person's opinion. Plenty of people don't like Baldurs Gate. I've even tried to get some of these people to play it. It's just not for them and so they don't think it's a "good" game.

It's just a name, I don't understand why people are getting so bent about "this game isn't good enough" or "this game isn't old enough". For example, we have this store called Best Buy, does anyone seriously think that store is the only place you are going to find the best buys? No, they might have the best buys on some products, but only an idiot would go there expecting everything to be the best buy they have ever seen. Good Old Games is no different; it's just a name that is a marketing gimmick; while the majority of what they sell s "good" and "old", not everything is going to be like that.

I don't know if it was showing or not but that was sarcasm, but yeah I agree completely

Yeah, it showed, I was just agreeing with your sarcastic assessment, though in re-reading what I wrote, it doesn't really sound like that.

amok: . the point is that every game would be good to someone in some-way
What about Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing?

Nah, I agree with your post. Pretty much every game is enjoyable for someone, so if you're going to write a review of a game you should always write why you rate what you do. In the other thread someone said that the game was so bad that he didn't want to waste his time writing a proper review, but in that case he shouldn't have written anything at all.

Are you kidding? I would kill to play that piece of legendary awfulness. That game is so epically bad, one must experience it to really appreciate just how good all other games in the world really are.

See, I found something good in it. ;)
I stopped reading the new release threads long ago. I will sometimes leave a "Thank you GOG staff for releasing this game" but ignore the rants concerning the new release. Still, it seems to have become the norm for a small group that attempt the trashing of a game as if . . . somehow . . . their opinion was the last word on a game.

I've been playing the [ insert negatives here ] Gothic 3 since release day. I've had a blast with the game in spite of some flaws. If I listened to the release thread rants . . . I would have missed it completely based on unfairly biased opinions.

no worries :D
Somebody should buy OP a beer.

Ok, i understand that some guys may feel endangered, that Good Old Games will remain just a name, but nothing implicates it yet.

There are few bad games in gog catalogue, but most of them are at least good for some people.

I, for example, enjoyed Desert Storm a lot when I was a kid.

Indeed. Just reading the name of that game makes me laugh uncontrollably for some reason.

Catshade: quality such as Messiah
I personally enjoy Messiah, especially non "super mario like" levels.
GOG should restrict user reviews, they should also find a way to display the MobyGames ranking for the game. Or maybe just a link to the game page or something.

A simple "five line minimum" would do wonders.

Edit: And since Mobygames is now owned by gamefly that could get rather tricky.
