PC is the better platform, those are the facts. Elitism has nothing to do with it.

jefequeso: The advantage to a keyboard is that you have a lot of possibilities when it comes to mapping controls
Yes, but most of those mappings will inevitably be tortured, difficult, and slow. Far more so than a gamepad which is often accused of these very sins.

Keyboards are made to be used with two hands, when one has to rest primarily on a mouse it's going to become inherently a ton less useful. I have a specialized gaming keyboard, and while it helps, it's still a horrid pain in the ass. Some PC games also do an inherently bad job at mapping keys and mouse buttons internally (I'm looking at you, Torchlight 2) and you're stuck using outside software to emulate key presses that the game deigns to actually understand.

Keyboards really do fucking suck, I mean, the layout comes from days of type writers for Freya's sake! That's god damned old. Yeah they beat punch cards for computer input, but that's like saying piss tastes better than shit.

It's better at generating this argument. Notice how it's usually PC gamers that bring it up. It's like they're oversensitive about something...:)

SimonG: Yeah, sorry. I'm not making a decision on that. If I can switch a game into 60 FPS fine. But I sure as hell won't ignore a game because it doesn't run with 60. On the list of things I care about in a game, this isn't even on the first page.
All my board games run at multiple seconds, or even minutes, per frame. The game either "works" or it doesn't, I'm actually confused about why a measurement gets extracted from any context and then used as a value judgement.

If a game constantly is dropping frames and making it hard to play and enjoy, yep, that's bad.

If a game is dropping frames and it in no way impacts the game play or fun, then why would it matter.

I'm with you, as an independent measurement it's not important. In fact, it doesn't make my list at all...

Jesus I'd take mouse and keyboard over gamepad for just about any game that isn't a platformer or a fighting game. the one thing that video got right is the superiority of the control scheme on PC. Controllers are limited.

orcishgamer: I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks keyboards are inherently bad as a gaming device. I swear I really don't know if people are conflating "good" with "less shitty" or not. It's lonely here.
Yeah keyboards kind of suck for most games. Basically anything that's about moving a character. I certainly don't like playing platformers with one, it's where its shortcomings become most noticeable and problematic.

The shear amount of buttons can be nice for some things though, I guess, if you can reach them and then re-position your hand back in the proper place.

I'm not sure you understood my whole point about dogshit vs. piss. The ideal choice is "neither", a choice which currently doesn't exist in any reasonable way. Keyboards are shitty, this has nothing to do with whether game pads are inherently shittier or not, it's purely a value judgement on keyboards.

I realize the keyboard isn't perfect but the fact three's no alternative yet is telling. It's still the best game in town. At any rate, I was going to list other reasons why PC is the platform pushing boundaries in both tech and creativity, but everyone knows this.
PC for the win... PERIOD.

Creativity has nothing at all to do with the "horsepower" on PC. Some of the best examples of PC games will run on a really old machine. Minecraft is the quintessential example but there's plenty more. Just as much creativity happens on console and even on phones.

You realize the video was parody of PC Elitism, right? It's not endorsing your point of view, it's mocking it by making it look as ridiculously at odds with reality as it is (and making the PC Elitist into a grade A douchebag).

I don't know man, I'm not so sure this is true. I've watched it twice and I'm not sure it's a swipe at PC elitists, especially the ending. It sounds to me like, well, a REAL pc elitist.

BTW, What is a PC elitist?? Maybe I'm juding wrong. Is it simply someone who believes PC's > Consoles?? If so, I guess I'm a PC elitiest too. Although I've played plenty of consoles in my time. Including the original PONG (Still have it and it still works) in 1974. LOL, we bought that on a west coast vacation trip in 1974, and my entire family stayed up ALL NIGHT playing that damn thing. And it was only a damn ball going back and forth accross the screen and you turned these two dials (one for each person) to move your "racket" to hit the ball back. We soon learned the dial on the right was at a disadvantage (since we were all righthanded). Should've seen my Uncle's face when I defeated him using my left hand!

Then the arguments are so asinine it might as well be a parody. I agree, it can be fucking hard to tell. This guy has a pretty cool video on the concept (someone posted this guy a few days ago and I'm addicted): http://foldablehuman.com/foldingideas/s2e17-homer-simpson/
I used to hate consoles because i considered them to be a marketing ploy by big business to grab more power and control over what people can and cannot do with their hardware and meanwhile recycling outdated PC technology and sticking ridiculous price on it!! When i say 'ridiculous price', consoles are ridiculously priced in terms of actual computer power per dollar spent vs the amount of computer power per dollar you can get for PC!

One thing happened with PC games that caused me to change my mind about consoles.... i used to be able to buy a pc game and multiplay with my wife at home, nowdays this has mostly been stopped and i have to buy the game twice!!! Well in that case, they can take their pc games and shove em! because guess what... with consoles, i can multiplay with my wife and i only have to buy the game once----- priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a subjective opinion, and it's one I don't share.

This is true. And nobody is going to dispute the fact that gamepads were designed with gaming ergonomics in mind, and keyboards weren't. But once again, I (and many other people) don't find the keyboard to be uncomfortable at all. They're perfectly workable for many genres, and merely less optimal for others (platformers and fighting games, for instance). Then again, many others (even other PC gamers) do. It seems to be a matter of personal preference. And regardless, the fact remains that there are still a ton more possibilities when mapping keyboard controls, which can be really important for games that require more than 11 buttons (and yes, some of those games are just needlessly complicated, but some aren't).

That's really the fault of the designers, not the device. Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying.

Are you talking about the control argument, or the "PC vs consoles" argument in general? Because yeah, PC gamers are usually the ones who bring up controls. But I've seen just as many console gamers starting general arguments about PC vs consoles (which I think we can all agree is stupidly pointless regardless of who starts it).

There is no "better platform." PC has advantages, and consoles have advantages. Consoles (currently) are a lot more user-friendly in many ways, and tend to work with a minimal amount of tweaking and frustrations. PCs have a wider range of options and possibilities, but at the cost of simplicity. People who claim their preferred advantages make their platform inherently superior are being close-minded.

PC with emulators.

Then you can play every PC game, and every console game from the PS2 and before on the same system.

Someone who thinks PCs are superior to consoles in every way, and delights in shoving that in everyone's face.

Thanks. Ugh, I might be one then. I do think they're superior in almost every way (ease of use is the only one that consoles are superior that I can think of). I try not to shove it everyone's face though. Maybe I'm a PC light-elitist. lol
