TovarisX: PC or Console? Easy question. Consoles has GOG and Steam? No. :P
I wish the PC had some of the oldies on PSN and Nintendo's various eshops. :(
PC's rule and at any rate it's the only platform that has gog,
and where gog is I am. wish they brought it to linux though.

This is pretty major for me too. I love playing old games I can't get anywhere else, in a lot of cases, those games are viable only on PC. GOG is major part of my PC gaming catalogue, the same way those old shareware catalogues were back in like the days when the 486 was the pinnacle of PC tech. If I wanna relive my days in the arcade, the PC has things like MAME that allow me to do that. There's reasons why anyone prefers anything, but there IS certain areas that you really DO need a PC for.
I take the best of both worlds. I play my games on my ps2. I don't play online through a console. I also don't play competitively. The games I play on the pc are adventure games mostly.
I understand an appeal of consoles to developers. It's a similar allure Mac can have. They don't have to think of all these possible configuration. Just program it stable for one thing.

I guess I came to dislike consoles when PS3 and Xbox appeared on the market and all failed sales were blamed on PC piracy and how consoles were new and only right way. Competition is good but I don't want to purchase 3 closed devices for 5 games because they are exclusive and don't support an older generation of specific console series. I'm fine to have 1 computer and I can play all PC games on it.

I see a parallel to the whole Origin/Steam/GOG situation. On GOG, you buy it, you can do whatever you want with it and whenever you want. Origin and Steam offer you some unique service and games but you are dependent on them and when it breaks, you're screwed.
Some people are attracted to first two's advantages, some to benefits of third. It's completely normal.

LiquidOxygen80: I think it IS that simple, but people have to slap labels on anything/everything. For me, personally, a gamer is anyone/everyone who like and enjoys playing games. Whether they be card games, video games, tabletop RPGs, board games, etc.
FWIW I'm with you, I'll give most things a shot. Yeah I don't like everything (I think Scrabble is the worst), but I'm continually surprised at how engaged I can get in a DS game or something else.

I think SV is responding to a different usage of the term "gamer", which people generally use to imply that their preferred genres are the real games. You're using it to imply you're more of an all around gamer, you love it all to some degree, a less common usage, and an attitude I applaud.

Now I don't exclude SV from the ranks of "gamer" simply because he strongly prefers a couple of genres, he's free to self define as he pleases (though I believe he's arguing he doesn't see the point in this particular self definition). I just like what you mean by "gamer" and find it to be the exception rather than the rule, I also wish it were rather closer to the rule (or rather, that we could let people like whatever range of games they wished without denigrating them).

Lodium: So, are you getting paid by ATI, NVIDIA , Asus, steelseries, etc to make their holy crusade?
Tell me how much do you earn to preach about their products?

Hadnt it been for console gaming im pretty sure pc games hadnt been the same today.
Annyway, pc or consoles boils downs to two things for me, usufullness or entertaintment.
I can use my pc for a lot of tasks and entertaintment thats why i have one.
I can use my consoles for entertaintment thats why i have those.

It has nothing to do whos superior, im simply buying either for entertaintment or usfulness
and i sure are not sponsored by any manufacturer or brand.

scampywiak: Look, the PC platform is more experimental, has more potential, and embraces the newest technology. If I considered myself to be 'superior' to console gamers then you'd have a point. But I don't. I'm just saying the platform can do more.
Well, you can see it that way yea sure, you can fit in a new card of something or a new proccessor and the pc is the leading in the technology department today because of the ease of use, its simple to replace parts.

But this coud apply to consoles as well if you think hard on it
there just needs to be made consoles that have replacebal parts and this issue wont matter annymore.

Take forexample cars
A sports car can do one or two things great
but it probably cant climb up a hill in the forrest, for that you need a jeep or any other terrain vehicle.
But the advances in science and technology continues to advance so maybe 10 years from now you will have a car that can do all tasks just as good or heck maybe it even can hoover making terrain just a silly problem of the past.

PCs and consoles, all have their Pros and Cons... The question should be, what is best for you.

Anything other than this is truly a waste of time to type.
