Ordered new MBs on Saturday from the store where I got the Windows licenses from, and received them today. They were supposed to arrive yesterday, but the order apparently did get clear until yesterday night... First fail here.

Before they arrived, the PCs were at their service location, they said they fixed them. As soon as I tried actually installing Windows, the problems "reappeared" again... Second fail here.

As soon as I looked at them, I noticed the box saying they are Socket 775 MBs, yet the PCs have AM2 socket. I surely didn't order Socket 775 MBs... Third fail here.

Opened them, and what is there to see? The MBs are actually with socket AM3, and DDR3 memory, but of course the processor doesn't support DDR3, nor the memory sticks are compatible with DDR3... Fourth fail here.

I'm going to the store in a hour or so, going to throw the two MBs right in the two guys' faces that work there.

Actually, to hell with that. I'm keeping these MBs, and will get a couple of DDR3 sticks, and two Phenom 2 CPUs.

It would be for the best, I think, since my dad said that money isn't much of a problem right now.

By the way, is DDR3 really so cheap? Cheaper even than DDR2 with some brands?

I don't necessarily recommend the Crucial site or memory but . . . it is great for finding the correct memory for systems you are working on along with the basic price. Sometimes find the memory cheaper at a local store or even the Crucial memory on Amazon for less.

Got some for free, to test, from a local store. Hopefully, the processor, Athlon 64 X2 something, will support it.

Turns out, the CPU cannot support DDR3 RAM. And, got a new combo motherboard with both DDR2 and DDR3, it couldn't start up with DDR3. I'll try installing Windows now, with this new MB.

Next time ask me or others for parts advice before buying again...just offering help. :) As for RAM sometimes some RAM won't work if the ram is too fast and the board doesn't support the speed....plus some ram doesn't like some mobos.

I haven't paid for absolutely anything, no worries. ;) Thanks for the offer. The reason I'm having trouble is because these two PCs were bought pre-compiled way back in 2007.

They work now with the new MB (everything else remains the same as before). Will try installing Windows in a few dozen minutes.

So, btw....if money is no object why get crappy dual cores and not AMD/AM3 phenom 2 quad cores? 0.o Better bang for your buck, imo.

I haven't paid everything I got since I'm testing what is wrong. Will return all parts that aren't needed, and it looks like I'll be keeping just the new motherboards, will return everything else. :p

Good idea. As I said though if you do want good bang for your buck the latest phernom 2 quad cores are nice and cheap to boot. Mine is the 965 Black Edition. 3.4Ghz x4 cores.

Yea, I looked at it, its quite good and cheap! :)

These MBs support AM3 and DDR3 too, so in future, it would be possible to upgrade to the Phenom 2 and DDR3 memory without any problems. :) If Windows works okay now, the next summer, or maybe during the winter, I'll be definitely looking to add more juice to the PCs. :)

The PCs are mostly used for Office, Core, AutoCAD, and Microstation... A CPU upgrade is definitely a nice idea for the future.

Yeah, and quad cores are useful for multithreading and intensive apps. :)
