We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Stuff: If the BIOS did update you might want to reinstall Win 7 as Win 7 had a huge amount of drivers. If it was just the BIOS needing an update, might install correctly.

Do be patient with the Win 7 install as it takes some time and often seems to be locked up or rebooting for no reason.
Cleared the CMOS... Installing it now, 6% so far.
avatar
Stuff: Edit: IIRC, the last Win 7 install I did took around 1 1/2 hrs on a slower, older machine. I thought it was locked up but the HD light was still flickering. Finally finished the install successfully.
No worries, I've done like a few dozen Win 7 installations so far... none have given me even the slightest trouble. But these two PCs... /rageeeee! :D

EDIT: And there it goes, restarts itself again, this time around 62% (last time was at 98%).

EDIT: Started it again, this time it restarted itself at 4%.

I'm going to see if I have more luck with the other PC now.

EDIT ONCE AGAIN: Enough for tonight, going to try the other PC tomorrow. Maybe if I succeed on that one, I'd be able to clone the HDD for this one.

Random dude solving problems..
If I buy stonekeep at some point.. It works in dosbox?
And an conclusion.. Does it suck. =)
Also.. Have you had problems with it?
I know.. maybe I'll buy arx fatalis again.. but stonekeep sounds like dungeon master in acid aka better graphics.

Better answers to your questions if you post them in the Stonekeep forum. . . . =)
And now for something completely different...

Speaking of booting problems, here's just another thing to check if you have similar problems. Most PC cases have a reset button on the front. It's not usually an actual switch, but rather a piece of round plastic that "floats" in front of the real Reset switch. I had a case once where the plastic reset button got pushed in a little too far. It didn't pop back out, and became "jammed" between the back of the front cover and the reset switch, partially depressing the switch at all times. The darn PC wouldn't boot at all. It must have taken me Forever(tm) to figure that one out, but not before I removed every card, drive, CD, cable, and mobo connector.

How did it happen, and why didn't I associate a non-reboot with the recent Reset? Because I never intentionally pushed the reset button. I had lain the case on its side, and was fiddling with something else, maybe putting in a new PCI card or something. What pushed the reset button? My knee. While leaning over the case with my knees on the floor and resting against the front of the case case, I must have applied enough pressure on the case to dislodge/jam the reset button with my knee.

I bought a case and those freaking little wires gave me a bit of a headache.
I never buy ready pc.. I always assemble. Altough.. I was drunk one time (suprise) I destroyed 2 processor.. but now I have that phenom.. Thank the makers that I destroyed sempron and athlon x2 and now I have phenom 1.. it's not best but what you gonna do. Gladly I would buy components but.. those aren't cheap.
Just a random thought - could it be your surge protector? I know surge protectors usually have their own power/reset switch, maybe the switch on yours has jammed? Or something? Maybe try plugging the computer right into the wall, see what happens.

(I'm assuming you're using a surge protector. If not this post is useless. Derp.)

Did that already. Also tried with a UPS, same story.

Got a new PSU, and some new cables for the hard drive. Going to try them out in a hour or so.

I doubt such problems could be software related... but do you have older XP installation to try?

Will try installing XP too, thanks. Just have to get a few hours sleep first. :)
Replaced the HDD with an old one, same problem.

Replaced the cables with new ones, same problem.

Replaced the PSU with a new, more powerful one, same problem.

I give the fuck up. Will take it to a local service from where I bought the Windows discs, and let them screw with the PCs... I've had enough.

It's like Granny Weatherwax's broomstick, every part replaced, it still doesn't work.

Just a thought, I had this a while ago, and the problem was actually that the connection between the CPU and the motherboard was a bit loose, and just shoving it down and making sure the fastening clips were secure was enough to fix it. A long shot, but you seem to be at that point. Try just hitting stuff (not the GOG member).

I had that problem once. I may or may not have actually replaced a part I thought I did.

*take out graphics card*
*put in new graphics card*
*or was it the old graphics card*

Have you tried replacing the DVD drives?

Are those genuine Microsoft-mastered DVDs, or something else?

If you get failures at inconsistent times during the installation, I would question the condition of either the install media or the drives.

Unopened OEM discs (legal, and it worked fine on a PC with a different config). I also tried installing through USB, didn't help either.

So surely we're at - loose connection on motherboard?
