No. There are very few games that I want to play that are not available on PC. Even if I did want a console for that small handful of titles, I couldn't justify the price for even one console, let alone more than one (to cover all the exclusives), until they've dropped well into the sub-$100 bracket - if even then.

For the launch price of one new console, I could make some serious upgrades to my PC. Or buy a laptop - which I recently did, and which I find far more useful than a console. It's not even worth joking about.

Short answer, no. However, I do play console games if I have the system available and the game is good.

I did buy a wii with my flatmates to buy mario kart with 4 people, but I never play alone. Mario Kart is just awesome in groups.

I have a PS2, but only because my sister gifted it to me. Sing star bundle, of course. I did enjoy FFX and Devil may cry there, and both Tekken and DBZ Budokai games were fun to play with other people.

I have a PS3, but only because a friend broke his (no longer reads discs) and gifted it to me while buying another one with bigger hard disk. I switched the hard disk for a 720GB one and hacked the console, making it a viable way to play again. MGS 4 and specially Valkyria Chronicles were really fun to play.

Strictly speaking, actually, licensing provisions forbid the use of the PlayStation ROMs on any hardware except Sony PlayStation hardware, but these provisions are overruled by reverse engineering exceptions in various states.

Some emulators (DOSBox, Dolphin, pSX) don't use proprietary ROMs anyway - they use clean room reverse-engineered versions of the firmware/BIOS/OS.

Even so, you're still tasked with actually buying the games you intend to run on the emulators. Either by disc to pop in or the cartridges for the backup premise. Things the way they are though I'd suspect the majority (cough) would just download the goodsets or disc images.

Again, I'm not innocent but for people who actually give a crap about the law it's something to think about.

If you have a 'paint' or photoshop program sure.

I have a console, specifically a PS3 and I use it a lot less than my laptop for gaming. However, I am not even remotely tempted by the XBOX One or PS4. Most of my games are from GOG as I hate DRM in PC games. Finally, I'll only buy a PS3 game when the price has plummeted, such as Deus Ex Human Revolution and Max Payne which I picked up for £5 each.

In the case of cartridge-based games, I'd be inclined to agree with you - honesty often fails at the effort that it requires to get them running from their original medium, where you'd just be better off downloading a ROM.

In the case of disc-based games though, there's really no excuse. An original PS1/PS2 game can be run with little effort straight off the disc on a PS emulator, as can Sega CD, CD32 and other CD-based platforms. Hell, even PSP games can be imaged relatively easily to run on PPSSPP (which is very advanced now, and can play quite a few games without too many problems) using a real PSP, some custom firmware, ISOtool and a USB cable.

I bought a console during this generation, and I've not used it all that much. Hard to justify buying games for it when they are so expensive. During the upcoming generation, if nothing major changes, I'll probably not get a new console, based on my experiences with the current generation.

But what's the point? Sony doesn't sell PS/2 systems anymore, PS/2 games aren't available first-hand too. The IP owner gets a big fat zero anyway.
Searching for probably working version of game abandoned long time ago in the dark corners of Internet feels like ordering boxed S1 of some series I might like + $30 per postage & customes when I just want to check out the first episode.

Not really - you can still buy new PS2 games on ebay and in stores. For example, I bought a new sealed The Operative - N.O.L.F on ebay this year for only 10 usd with free shipping. An I've bought some used PS2 games in great condition - the last was SSX1, it was a PS2 launch title and my copy is almost in mint condition.
