Hi there, So i was hoping that some of you kind folk can help me pick out a PC monitor since i would really love to get one for christmas.

So about a month ago i created a topic asking if my PC gaming rig was up to date and found out that it was and was very grateful for all the responses i recieved.

My only piece of hardware that needs updating now is my PC Monitor. I currently have a 17" monitor Xerox XA7-172i which is really old now and it came with my old PC i bought about 5-6 years ago.

So what am i looking for?

- Under £250 (If it's only slightly over i might be able to go up to it).
- 1920 x 1080.
- Needs to be in a retail store in the UK such as PC World, Currys, Comet or any other.
- Needs to have a good response time (Although as bazilisek pointed out, manufactuers can lie about this).
- 23 Inch or Higher.

If anyone has suggestions on which monitor to choose, i would be very grateful and would also love to hear what PC monitor you use and what you think of it.

Thanks for your time.

Druidshinobi: Needs to have a good response time (i hear it's important for gaming due to ghosting).
I just want to point out that the technology of the monitor is way more important than all the various numbers manufacturers throw at you put together. There is basically no standard methodology for accurately measuring response times / contrasts etc., meaning they are free to pull the figures out of their arse, which they often do.

In other words, ghosting is not an issue with pretty much any modern monitor you can buy, and response times are not to be trusted.

Alright, thanks for the Info. I guess it was because when searching i heard so much about 'Response times' that i thought it was the main thing or something, i am pretty clueless when it comes to the tech of monitors.
I've a LG W2486L-PF LED 24" Full HD thing, and it's the best monitor I've ever used (there are probably newer, fancier things by now). It seemed to be something like £240 on Amazon. Dunno if it's available in a retail store there, but it fits all the other requirements, and the LED light doesn't tire people's eyes as much (or so I've heard), and it's looks impressive. Everything looks so bland on non LED monitors now :p

If you buy a gaming monitor (or search for gaming monitor reviews), you'll most likely get a monitor with good response times. Years ago I fell into that response times required trap, went to a store and asked for a monitor with good response times, and they sold me an expensive monitor that is really bad at everything else. That LG W2486L-PF LED thing I found after googling for gaming monitors and reading some reviews.

Hey thanks for the advise. The monitor you have looks pretty good, just checked it specs on Amazon etc and it's also under £250. My only problem is that i really need to find a monitor that's in UK shops.

I know your from finland so they probably won't have the shop here, but what was the stores name you went to? Was it popular electronic store or something? The only ones here such as PC World, Currys etc have pretty bad monitors.
