Went into town today and hand a look in GAME, HMV and Gamestation and all 3 of them now only have a tint little 4ft racking for pc games..
I remember when game shops had a big area just for PC games..
Is the PC games indusry dieing a death?
Nope.
Nope.

Nope.
YES!
Sorry, just felt like being contradictory. PC isn't dying, its evolving towards digital distribution faster than consoles can
Retail outlets are dying. That's where the death is. Their prices are completely non-competitive. They're sticking with console games as they can sell those to people who don't have easy internet access like PC gamers typically do.
PC gaming is moving online through online retailers (like Amazon and Play) and digital distribution services like Steam and GOG. If you want to see PC gaming thrive then you need to search Google, not your high street.
Pc is not dieing. most box copys are order online these days or you buy said game from a digital download site.
all hail gog the only digital download site i buy game form.
NO.

The PC games industry is dieting though, we're all too fat.

You mean cheaper than Steam? Interesting viewpoint...

Here in the US (and everybody knows that all that matters in this world is the United States of fucking America) Steam is usually about 3000 times cheaper than retail stores, give or take.

I mean retail is more expensive. New titles are equally expensive. Older games tend to be cheaper on Steam. As for Steam's deals; well they trounce anything the high street offers.
I know Steam is a rip off in Europe and I don't know what retail is like. But given that both I and the OP are from the UK it didn't seem relevant.

I know what you meant. I was trying to be sarcastic, but apparently that didn't shine through. What I mean is that here, new games are frequently more expensive on Steam than in retail. So you get less product for more money if you buy off Steam.

Given that the UK was a part of Europe the last time I checked... I have no followup for that. I know that Steam has blessed you with your own non-Euro prices in the UK, which tend to not shaft you as badly as the rest of us. All I'm saying is that things aren't the same everywhere. But PC game retail is dying out here in Denmark as well, depending on how you define retail. Plenty of game discs are still sold, I think, but more and more of them are ordered over the internet, since the webshops have very competitive prices compared to the physical stores, like you also mentioned. Digital distribution has certainly taken a hefty chunk of market share, but I think that has more to do with ease and speed of delivery than with pricing.
