That was a blast from the not so distant past. To be fair, after I saw those articles, I found other stuff by you which was quite good, so it might be someone else that was trying to slander you, since everything I read was linked by some people on another forum.
The inconsistencies was brought on by different people that was linking to different articles, and when I found the correct sources for everything I noticed that something didn't seem entirely correct, so I apologize if you feel like what I wrote was an attack, which it probably was, though brought out of misguidance.

And so, we resolve our differences. We pass through the strife and conflict, and come out stronger on the other side. And the great GOG community moves serenely onwards, towards new horizons.

TBH I'm surprised at how well the 'self-moderation' of this forum works. There hasn't been any major flamefests, and few people ever seems to become butt hurt. I love this place.

I think a major contributing factor is that the average age on this forum is much higher than most other places on the net. We don't have many snot-nosed kids who haven't yet figured out how to behave in a civilized manner. And when, once in a while, one does pop up, he is mostly ignored, or his transparent attempts at trolling dissected publicly.

Blah, it's always the same story everywhere, in every country and for every field of interest: magazines and newspapers want to compete with the Interwebz with the same (mostly) short-sighted stuff the web is full of....
The "old" media think the "old" way of building perspective on things and stuff is no more working, hence they "update" themselves with the "new" way of not saying anything of interest more than it would be on an average Internet weblog....
They have shot themselves in their guts, and the problem here is NOT the Interwebz....

I gave up on gaming magazines a looong time ago. They never seemed to have anything in them but the latest hype on the latest games with oh-so-exciting graphics/gameplay/whatever ... and every game rated highly for months until the next Whatever-Killer came out. Most of the special first-look articles they ran turned out to be about vaporware anyway. Hell, I remember when the *first* exclusive Duke Nukem Forever screenshots were published -- how's *that* for ancient history?
Gaming magazines forgot their history and their loyalty. They turned into hype machines for big game publishers, and it's a damn shame.
It's part of what turned me into a a Long Tail Gamer. I figured that I didn't really need to kno what the super-amazing shiny new thing was every month, because I wasn't in a position to buy the shiny new thing every month anyway.
After being out of touch for a while, the games that really proved themselves over time began to penetrate my hermitic isolation from the gaming world. That's when I knew there was something special out there, and I started getting much better games for my hard-won cash. That's the same reason GOG can endure.
So I don't really weep for PC Gamer. To tell you the truth, it's hard to believe that the magazine was still around this long.

I assume you are all talking about the U.S. PCG. the UK PCG is still as awesome as ever :)

I'm still none the wiser as to why you don't like the magazine... In respects to the EVE review having played it extensively i can see why two people could view it so differently.

I dont think its so much a case of what's happening to PC gaming here as a case of whats happening to print vs. online journalism. It's my estimation PC gaming is getting healthier, and actually isn't doing too bad. Really, do not rely on Gamestop for a representation of how well its doing -- they are completely out of touch (with ALL gaming).
Do they have one in this issue too, does anybody know? Cause if so I'll spring for it. Without this I can't really justify it.

Gaming mags have such a terrible record overall of not saying what's wrong with games, even when it's huge, that they simply lost too much credibility to be worth buying except for a lark. And you can get a lark for free on the internet all over the place.
That said, I found them at least amusing enough, if nothing else, to have subscriptions for many, many years. They're quote affordable that way. But the price does get pretty ridiculous on the newsstand.

I enjoy PCG US very much. I'm good friends with the editorial staff (I'm in their TF2 clan), and they're a very nice group. They all know what they're writing about, and are very good at it. Evan Lahti, the previews editor, has told me something regarding the online vs. print debate... It goes something like "Internet gaming news and reviews is fast-food, while a magazine is like dining at a nice restaurant, where everything is prepared for you."
I trust PCG more than any website, and I'm always very eager to read through the magazine. Much more professional and enjoyable than most websites.

Never quite thought about it that way -- would be interesting to see if they hadn't sold off their credibility if they'd still be around.
I enjoyed Nintendo Power and EGM very, very much. :)
It's good to hear the latter is coming back..I think I will be subscribing..I miss reading it every month. I just hope it's more like the old days (in look and content) then the latter days, not that it was all horrible or anything.
