So should be all the people asking PayPal for refunds where the developer/publisher should provide them (if he's willing to do so at all) and yet PayPal takes them so seriously that it gives in just to maintain a friendly image (instead of just saying "screw you, we just deliver the money, that you purchased crap is YOUR problem"). I think it would make them think if the majority of the contributors of a crowd funding campaign suddenly asked for a refund and explained that they want to execute the same transaction through a different service.

Bloodygoodgames: I actually signed up with http://www.neteller.com/ a few weeks ago, haven't used them though except to send some money to my Dad which he got almost immediately.

They have a good reputation as far as I've heard and are UK-based.
LOL. You're worried about the NSA, then you sign up for a UK-based service? That's horrifically ironic. The UK agencies have a way broader mandate, are widely known to collect more data, and have been doing it for years longer. Trying to preserve privacy by signing up for a UK service is laughable.


On-topic: I never leave money in PayPal. For me, it's just a convenient way to pay online without handing my cards out to all and sundry. I hope the devs have gotten the funds unfrozen. And next time, use Kickstarter or Amazon Payments or some service not know for this problem.

Oh i love it when there are technical issues with my payment. I no longer have a PayPal account. I am going to get a new one (mainly for gog)

PayPal definitely needs more competition, yep. They are getting away with things that they shouldn't, because they dominate their market. Competition is good for the customers.

I'm not sure if I feel sorry for Nyu Media though. After playing Eryi's Action, I'm getting Rash whenever I see them mentioned ...

Strijkbout: I never had any trouble so far with PayPal, I mainly use it for gog and sometimes on other services, but now reading through these angry posts, should I be worried?
This had to do with a large Indie GoGo (like Kickstarter) fund that the was combined donation of all donators. I'm not sure why Paypal doesn't feel that they are obliged to release the funds immediately (it's not theirs) but they're only offering half now and half after the project is complete.

Developers need all of it to complete the project (obviously).

So for a small guy fry who is just using it once in awhile to buy a digi game there shouldn't be much probs but you might not want to use Paypal for a large money projects.

And also, apparently, perhaps small guys buying Kickstaters and GoGos should also avoid Paypal.

PayPal Has Released Yatagarasu AoC Funds!

I’m relieved to announce that today we received an email from PayPal's ‘Office of Executive Escalations’, advising us that they have released all reserve funds and removed all reserve settings from our account.

This comes as a HUGE relief for all involved in the development of Yatagarasu AoC, as the money raised by our contributors is vital to the game development and pursuing alternative arrangements at this timing would have been hugely problematic.

*THANK YOU* to everyone for the amazing outpouring of support on Twitter, NeoGAF, Shoryuken, and numerous gaming blogs! Your voices clearly played a part in motivating PayPal to resolve our problem and hopefully will help prevent other developers going through the same experience in future.

I forsee that if PayPal doesn't stop this nonsense, the next crowd-sourcing effort will be to raise funds to sue them.

GOG and, of course many other sides too, should ban PayPal from there side and should use systems like UKASH, Paysafe, the austrian äquivalent and several identical payment options instead.
This would be more customer-friendly and it would hit Paypal.

But then again, there's quite a lot of people who solely rely on Paypal for their transactions. That would hurt GOG quite a bit as well. Or, at least, it would certainly hurt it more than it would hurt paypal.
