RedRagan: The sad thing, why is there no other payment service we can use other than Paypal? it's like they are monopolizing the international e-money transfer market.

Fuck them. No need for censor, they deserve that.
avatar
staticblast: Amazon Payments, Google Checkout, there are a few, but they're not widely supported just yet.
Both also American-owned.

It's about time other countries got with the program and started to develop services that rival these massive American monopolies. More and more people are not willing to use many American services due to the spying, the NSA in all your business, and of course their constant warmongering.

I'd use any service in practically any country as long as it wasn't based in the US.
Hating on Paypal? At GOG?

World is ending -_-

How about we start that?

Hey, if you have a few million tucked away that you're not using, I'll have you with the admin work :)

We can start small :p

I mean look at MOL (Money OnLine) that giving its service to most of the South East Asian countries and US. They are based in Malaysia and if they do their job right they can be big.
avatar
Bloodygoodgames: They're just as bad as PayPal. Bad reputation for freezing funds or refusing to make payments.

And....it's Google, who is willingly sending all your personal information to the NSA and the US government. Couldn't pay me to touch them with a 10 foot pole.
avatar
RedRagan: So what other options we got? Western Union?
I actually signed up with http://www.neteller.com/ a few weeks ago, haven't used them though except to send some money to my Dad which he got almost immediately.

They have a good reputation as far as I've heard and are UK-based.

Haven't signed up with Money OnLine yet (keep meaning to).

I'm all for supporting Asian companies as, frankly, much of the service I get from them is far better than service with US companies (Thai banks, for instance, are amazing compared to my crap US bank -- and ridiculously low fees as well).

Oh and I freaking LOVE Malaysia :) In my Top 3 countries list - Thailand, Spain and Malaysia :) (Sorry, haven't been to Indonesia, so no opinion about that yet :)

Simple: the people who have to kick PayPal in the balls is the people who participated in the crowd funding. Protecting the customer whose main intention was to fund a project, not receive a product, by not giving his money to the people working on the project? Well guess what, THAT'S screwing the customer. It's the people who fund the projects who have to complain to PayPal, not the people in charge of the projects.

You friggin' peoples have to write stuff like "Dear PayPal People, I participated in the crowdfunding campaign for project xxx, my intention was to give the developers the funds which they need to finish the project. It has come to my attention that they never received the funds which I provided via PayPal. Hereby I demand a refund so I can pay the developers via methods where no party will obstruct the transaction."

F1ach: Only had one problem with a purchase I made via paypal, it was BG Enhanced Edition, the game wouldnt work due to some severe release bugginess, I contacted Paypal and complained about it, I had a refund within I think, about 24 hours-ish.
Well congrats, people like you are responsible for this mess. By addressing PayPal instead of the party responsible for the faulty product (the developer/publisher) PayPal gets the impression that they have some sort of responsibility for the product and then they will "protect" consumers by only providing the developers with the money once they feel the product is in a satisfying condition - the shit they are doing now. So in the name of all backers of crowdfunded projects: thank you!

Interesting, I already bookmark the website and will do further research. Thanks for the link!

And you're right, MOL for example gave great services! I mean they actually provide MOL vouchers sales on one of our biggest retail chain here. Outstanding service I say.

When you visiting Indonesia you need to remember that this is a big country. So your visiting experience will vary depends on places you visit. Seriously, we got over 300 ethnic groups, over 700 languages (even though most of us speak Bahasa Indonesia), 5 official religions, thousands of islands and a lot of volcanoes (eeep!).

If you want good facilities you can always visit Jakarta (the capitol), Bali (obvious choice), Lombok (A little bit like Bali but much more cleaner), and other big cities.

But if you want culture you can visit Jogjakarta (lovely place, also still ruled by local king), Solo (another lovely place, also ruled by local royalty even though they are fighting for the throne now :p), Borobudur temple (biggest Buddhist temple in SE Asia, maybe the world), West Papua/Papua Barat (for the indoaustralia ethnic groups), Ambon (for the food!) and many more!

Other option is to try the diving experience since we got tons of natural and clean islands and oceans here.

Thanks for the info :)

Jogjakarta has actually been on my list of 'Must Visit Places' for a while as I've had a few friends from Thailand visit and they loved it. And, Bali, of course :)

I love Asia, though. I moved to Thailand from the US (I'm British) 10 years ago. Planned on staying for a year, then ..........just never left :) There's just so much to see and do in Asia, and the cultures are amazing. In fact, I'm so Asian-centric nowadays, my Thai friends say I'm definitely more "Thai than western', LOL.

As for Neteller, they also have a prepaid Master card you can apply for to use with online merchants that won't accept Netller (like GOG for instance) . Haven't signed up for one yet, but a friend has and uses it often -- says no problems at all.

And yes....Mastercard IS an American company, but they still beat PayPal by miles :)

Jogjakarta is a great choice! it's located in Central Java, it's a commonly visited by foreign visitors so you can get tour guide pretty easily and it also a campus city. So I bet several students there capable of speaking English. That place is also a great starting point if you want to visit the ancient Buddhist and Hindu temples like Sewu, Prambanan and Borobudur.

Extra note: Every full moon there's a theater ballet show of Ramayana on Prambanan temple at night. It's pretty magnificent, see it for yourself.

Also I heard the British royalty is in good term relation with the Jogjakarta royalty.

Never heard of this prepaid MasterCard, but I think this can help solve my problem in buying stuff online.
I never had any trouble so far with PayPal, I mainly use it for gog and sometimes on other services, but now reading through these angry posts, should I be worried?
Well, what people should do is CHARGE BACK ALL THE MONEY OUT OF PAYPAL AND DONATE IT DIRECTLY TO THE DEVS.

Let's see how PayPal deals with 5000+ chargeback fees.

I would pay money to see this happen.
There *is* a random issue with Paypal seemingly freezing accounts for no good reason. A friend and i discussed this and we get the impression there either doesn't seem to be a uniform set of rules within Paypal for x issues or paypal support is spread out in many regions and not applying their rules correctly (ie dodgy decision making)

It would be pretty much peanuts for Paypal. It would be hardly a blip in the radar.
